About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an Instrumentation Technician to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB on a full-time basis.


The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of instrumentation and control systems used to monitor and regulate plant processes. This role ensures the reliability, accuracy, and safe operation of process measurement and control equipment across the facility. Additionally, this position supports upgrades and new installations, including the configuration, calibration, and commissioning of instruments and control devices.


More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshooting and repairing instrumentation such as control valves, transmitters, switches, analyzers, steam turbine control systems, and DCS/PLC systems
  • Collaborating with other departments to identify and resolve causes of equipment or system failures
  • Recommending and implementing minor modifications to enhance plant reliability
  • Developing and refining maintenance procedures to improve reliability and prevent recurrence of equipment or system issues
  • Developing and performing corrective, predictive and preventive maintenance activities to ensure optimal equipment performance
  • Maintaining accurate calibration and maintenance records for all instrumentation devices
  • Researching and developing new predictive maintenance techniques and tools to improve system reliability
  • Recommending inventory adjustments and updates to ensure availability of critical instrumentation spare parts
  • Supporting other departments in developing designs and specifications for new and upgraded instrumentation and control systems
  • Providing technical and execution support to the Project Execution Team throughout project implementation, testing, and commissioning phases
  • Communicating effectively with team members, management, and other departments regarding ongoing activities, priorities, and policies
  • Mentoring and supporting new hires, peers, and contractors to ensure skill development and adherence to site standards
  • Ensuring employee and contractor compliance with Methanex policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory and industry standards
  • Supporting alignment with annual Maintenance Department and I/E Team objectives and initiatives


About You

To qualify, you will need to be a Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician, with Red Seal certification preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Journeyperson, preferably within an industrial plant environment, will also be essential.


Additionally, the following skills or experience would be assets:

  • Instrumentation Technologist Diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyperson Electrical Technician certification
  • Proficiency with HART 475, TREX, and other handheld digital communicators
  • Skilled in using specialized multimeters and test equipment
  • Expertise in maintaining, overhauling, troubleshooting, and calibrating control valves (Masoneilan, Valtek, Fisher) and digital/pneumatic valve positioners
  • Experience troubleshooting and calibrating pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters
