The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
The Patient Engagement Consultant - Anti-Racism ’s primary function is to work with researchers, clinicians, patient and public partners and knowledge users (stakeholders) to promote and enhance patient and public engagement, patient-oriented research and anti-racism initiatives in Manitoba. This includes facilitation services utilizing trauma-informed and cross-cultural approaches and working closely with researchers, clinicians and students to provide knowledge, expertise, and supports around patient engagement strategy, anti-racism initiatives, participatory approaches, recruitment strategy, and advice on patient engagement materials. The role provides knowledge around diversity, inclusion, equity and anti-racism within their work.
The Patient Engagement Consultant will embrace the principles of community-based research, patient centered care and anti-racism and must possess excellent organizational, operational, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Experience
- 5 years of progressive experience in working within project coordination/management, research or health sciences fields required.
- 3 years of experience managing a variety of diverse internal and external stakeholder and partner relationships.
- 2 years of experience using public engagement tools and participatory approaches, such as, virtual engagement and focus groups.
- Experience working, and negotiating with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g., health professionals, persons with lived experience, the public, health care managers, private industry) required.
- Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and evaluating anti-racism projects and initiatives in organizational and/or community contexts.
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to create safe, inclusive, and respectful meeting/workshop environments for diverse stakeholder groups required.
- Experience conducting literature searches, conducting interviews/focus groups & synthesizing qualitative data required.
- Commitment to and experience applying equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-oppression, and/or decolonization frameworks to initiatives.
- Experience adapting materials to meet the needs of diverse audiences, including staff, leadership, and community partners.
- Experience working with refugee and newcomer populations is an asset.
- Degree in health sciences, social-behavioural sciences or a related field required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Academic preparation in research methods.
- Master's Degree in health sciences, social-behavioural sciences or a related field an asset.
- Specific Patient & Public Engagement courses/education or Knowledge Translation courses is an asset.
- Courses or training in facilitation is an asset.
- Formal training or certification in equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, anti-oppression, or decolonization practices (e.g., anti-racism facilitation training, intercultural competency programs, human rights certification) an asset.
- Knowledge of adult education, curriculum development, or instructional design principles considered an asset.
- Ongoing professional development in anti-racism, equity, and social justice learning an asset.
- Active member in good standing with an associated regulatory body as appropriate.
- Demonstrated comprehensive leadership capabilities. Shared Health has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, editorial and verbal communication skills.
- Active listening skills to gain insight into the interests, issues and innovations of consortium members, partners and stakeholders.
- Effective relationship building and facilitation skills to foster collaboration among individuals and groups.
- Experience working and negotiating with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g., health professionals, persons with lived experience, the public, health care managers, private industry).
- Ability to develop partnerships, promote networking and team building, and work effectively as part of a supportive team.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
- Physically capable of providing service in a wide variety of community settings under varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Possession of a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s license required.
