Facilities - Maintenance includes all trade and grounds positions that work in school and administrative sites.

Note:
Must possess a current Alberta Operators license, Class 5, and provide a driver’s abstract.
Must provide own vehicle and hand tools as per applicable collective agreement.
May be required to work overtime.
Position Description
Purpose
The purpose of the Painter and Decorator is to prepare surfaces, apply finishes and generally maintain Calgary Board of Education structures and infrastructure to the standards set by the Calgary Board of Education and the Alberta Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Board.

This position is accountable for:
Maintaining a productive balance between quality and quantity of work in an efficient and timely manner while demonstrating adaptability to changes in work priorities;
Effectively prioritizing work and solving associated problems in a collaborative manner;
Communicating effectively;
Demonstrating teamwork to contribute towards and maintain positive work relationships; and
Performing all duties in accordance with CBE and legislative safety practices and procedures at all times to ensure their own safety and the safety of team members, staff and students.
major responsibilities
Identifies work priorities and schedules work in consultation with the Painter Foreman.
Assesses and prepares all types of surfaces to ensure successful application of new coatings.
Applies all types of coatings using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
Removes, repairs and applies all types of wall coverings and decorative finishes.
Mixes paint to match existing or specified paint colours.
Performs specialty work; such as touch-ups, application of gym floor sports-court lines, murals and logos.
Utilizes ladders, man lifts, and portable/stationary/suspended scaffold systems safely and effectively.
Determines stock levels and types of painting and decorating related materials to be procured.
Utilizes drawings and/or specifications, site visit measurements, material quantity take-offs, known labor rates and other information available, to produce accurate estimates for work covered in this trade.
Completes work orders as assigned.
Prepares reports and provides recommendations regarding painting and decorating.
Utilizes knowledge of Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations to ensure that all work sites and procedures are safe.
Adequately stocks vehicle when a service vehicle is assigned. Maintains cleanliness and basic service checks.
Works collaboratively with all other trades and CUPE members to provide painting and decorating services to the Calgary Board of Education.
May assume duties of Foreman as required.
Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
qualifications
Education and Experience
Must possess a Journeyman Painter and Decorator Certification.
Minimum three years’ experience as a Journeyman Painter and Decorator is an asset.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to keep accurate records
Demonstrated knowledge of computers is essential.
Self-motivated; able to work independently, strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment.
Skilled at maintaining and enhancing levels of service delivery and customer focus are required.
Willingness to upgrade and remain current with practices and trends.
Must be physically able to complete all demands and responsibilities of the position and work at multi-storey heights over a scheduled shift.
