We are seeking enthusiastic and caring Volunteer General Assistants to support our Lifestyle and Recreation team in delivering fun, safe, and engaging programs — including joining residents on bus outings and assisting with in-house activities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Volunteer General Assistant in Lifestyle & Recreation, you will:
Assist staff in organizing and facilitating recreational, social, and wellness activities (e.g., games, crafts, music, exercise, and special events)
Provide friendly companionship and encouragement to residents during programs
Accompany residents and staff on bus outings and community trips, ensuring comfort, safety, and engagement throughout the excursion
Help set up and tidy activity spaces before and after programs
Assist with escorting residents to and from activities or transportation areas
Support the Lifestyle team with light administrative tasks such as attendance lists or organizing supplies
Promote an inclusive, respectful, and positive atmosphere for all participants
Requirements
Genuine interest in working with and supporting seniors
Friendly, patient, and reliable with good communication skills
Ability to interact respectfully with residents, staff, and families
Willingness to follow staff direction and assist as part of a team
Physical ability to assist residents with mobility (walking alongside, pushing wheelchairs, etc.)
Comfortable participating in outings and group activities
Completion of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required for all volunteers working with seniors in BC)
Minimum age: 16 years (parental consent may be required for minors)
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience volunteering or working with seniors or in community recreation settings
First Aid/CPR certification (an asset, but not mandatory)
Enthusiasm for activities such as arts, crafts, music, games, or fitness
Positive attitude, adaptability, and sense of fun
