Job Description

The Facilities Assistant supports the facilities coordinator in performing maintenance of the Seaspan Island facilities including office maintenance, on and off site terminal maintenance, and upkeep. These may include repairs, painting, electrical, labouring, landscaping, and other requirements as needed.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 850 Jackson Rd, Nanaimo.

What You’ll Do

  • With direction from the Facilities coordinator, assist in troubleshooting all facilities related concerns, such as air conditioning, heat, lighting, and plumbing problems. Performs regular facility maintenance work such as landscaping, replacing and fixing lights, painting, and carpet/wall touch up, etc.
  • Performs minor repairs and handyman work (e.g. painting, electrical, plumbing, etc.) as required.
  • Maintains jack stand repairs including assembly and disassembly for major repairs and maintenance work, assist with sourcing, evaluating, and selecting appropriate sub-contractors to perform the work.
  • Responsible for Logistics activities involving ramp and facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring

  • 1-3 years experience as facilities maintenance worker, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and a safe driving record.
  • Broad trades knowledge and skills (electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc.).
  • Customer service orientation and troubleshooting skills.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Effective communication and people skills.
  • Flexible, trustworthy and reliable. Abilities to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Forklift Certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience operating outdoor landscaping equipment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Marine industry is an asset.


The estimated salary for this position is $29.20. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
