Facilitator for Young Women’s Gender Violence Awareness & Healthy Sexuality Program
The North Shore Women’s Centre works to improve the social, economic, legal and political status of women, and to encourage and support self-empowerment by acting as a resource and a catalyst for change, from feminist perspectives. The organization runs a drop-in resource centre and offers a wide range of programs and services. We provide over 7,000 service contacts per year to individuals from diverse backgrounds across the community.
Position Summary
Facilitators will deliver (in pairs) a 12-hour gender violence awareness/healthy sexuality program to young women aged 14 – 18. This evidence-based program educates young women on the extent and nature of gender violence in their communities, trains them to recognize and call out rape culture when they see it and teaches them to support other young women. It also teaches positive sexuality & relationships and emancipatory sexual assault resistance.
Facilitators must be available for 9 days of training from the 14th to 22nd February, 2026. Training is a prerequisite for program delivery and is provided to successful candidates free of charge. Facilitators who successfully complete the training session will be scheduled to deliver sessions based on their availability.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend and participate in a 9-day training program and dress rehearsals – 14th to 22nd February 2026;
- Learn the theoretical and empirical basis of sexual assault resistance;
- Deliver (in pairs) a 12-hour program to young girls ages 14-18;
- Participate in additional training and practice as required;
- Attend and participate in supervision and team meetings both in-person and virtually;
- Maintain regular communication with the Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA Program Coordinator;
- Advise the Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA Program Coordinator of any issues or concerns in a timely manner;
- Participate in the research component of the program; and
- Complete additional administrative and organizational tasks as assigned by the Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA Program Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills including excellent verbal skills
- Comfort discussing sexual topics including sexual coercion and assault, as well as healthy sexuality and relationships
- Must be capable of resolving conflict with participants. The ability to correct rape myths and women-blaming among high school-aged participants without discouraging their continued attendance is critical (training and practice in this area is provided)
- Previous work and experience with violence against women is an asset
- Previous work or experience as a facilitator, or work with teenagers or young women is an asset
- Must be capable of demonstrating physical resistance techniques
- Must be available during the week and willing to travel
- Due to licensing restrictions, this position is open to women 28 or younger with a post-secondary degree or equivalent experience
