Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and direction as listed. This position has oversight of a specific area and acts as a representative to the department ensuring technical accuracy in project execution in all phases. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This is the Lead position on assigned projects or performs engineering assignments of any complexity. Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities on complex projects, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to codes and standards.
  • Translate global strategic initiatives into project-level procedures and apply cost-competitive execution techniques.
  • Develop and review project scope, estimates, schedules, progress reports, and manpower forecasts.
  • Oversee material key quantities, specifications, and design criteria, incorporating health, safety, and environmental considerations.
  • Manage vendor interactions, procurement processes, and technical evaluations.
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to engineering teams, supporting professional development and performance management.
  • Engage in client relations, cross-discipline coordination, and promote Client Service Excellence.
  • Support proposal development, change management, and compliance with Operating System Requirements (OSR).
  • Participate in audits, departmental standards development, and external technical organizations.
  • Establish equipment requirements and prepare equipment data sheets for mechanical equipment including unfired and fired heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, pressure vessels, pumps and compressors, or packaged equipment
  • Evaluate dimensions, equipment connections, and equipment performance including pressure profiles, heat transfer rates, and off-design cases
  • Provide equipment sizing and application support to project development or process
  • Support in the material selection for equipment
  • Develop and revise equipment lists, narrative specifications, equipment standards, equipment general arrangement and outline drawings
  • Participate in supplier/contractor bid clarification, negotiation, and/or award meetings
  • Represent Mechanical support/advice in model reviews and closely monitor mechanical equipment layout
  • Provide consultation during fabrication and witness testing of equipment
  • Provide consultation and/or on-site assistance for the installation, commissioning, and/or start-up of equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • Design of mechanical equipment through all stages of a project from conceptual phase to design development, construction, and commissioning
    • Mechanical equipment in one or more of the following specialties: rotating equipment, pressure vessels, unfired and fired heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, or metallurgy and welding
Basic Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering and at least sixteen (16) years* of work-related experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in mining and metals projects
  • At least 5 years of experience serving as Lead Engineer on mining and metals projects
  • Demonstrated competence and proven track record in technical leadership roles
  • Strong skills and experience in discipline-specific project execution
  • Experience working on revamp projects (asset)
  • Proficiency in interdisciplinary coordination
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Highly self-driven with the ability to complete assigned tasks independently and in a time-effective manner
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Professional Engineering registration

Other Job Requirements

  • Design experience on mechanical equipment through all stages of a project: conceptual phase, design development, construction, and commissioning
  • Mechanical equipment in one or more of the following specialties:
  • Rotating equipment
  • Pressure vessels
  • Unfired and fired heat transfer equipment
  • Packaged equipment

Compressed work schedule: The Fluor Canada offices work a compressed work schedule offering every second Friday off.

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $253,000.00

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
