Scope
The City of Surrey is seeking dynamic and energetic Youth Engagement Staff who will work closely with youth ages 10-18, encouraging them to be active and social in the community by working drop-in programs, out trips and special events.
This position offers a dynamic and ever-changing work environment at the heart of youth engagement. If you're passionate about creating a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for youth and are ready to lead with energy and innovation, this is your call to action.
Responsibilities
Provide exciting engagement opportunities for youth ages 10-18 in multiple locations across Surrey promoting social, emotional, and physical development.
Provide a physically and emotionally safe place for youth to develop, connect and be involved with their community.
Work alongside youth to create projects, programs, activities, and events with the purpose of engaging local youth in civic services with leadership opportunities.
Foster a safe and inclusive environment where young people can thrive and express themselves.
Serve as a positive role model and advocate for the needs of youth in our community.
Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to be an effective team player.
Handle diverse situations with youth from a variety of different backgrounds.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will have:
Completion of Grade 10 supplemented by 6 months of experience in community service work or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.
Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR- C & AED Certificate.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a safe driving history.
The following are considered as assets:
Continued Post-Secondary Training in Child and Youth Care and/or Recreation at a recognized Community College or University, and sound related community recreation experience; courses related to youth within a recreation setting are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience engaging with youth aged 10 - 18 in a recreation environment.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
Trauma Informed Practice Training.
Food Safe - Level 1.

Pay Grade: D
Hourly Rate: $23.85
Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
