Job Summary

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist in the Calderdale CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team. The team consists of Clinical Psychologists, Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Neurodevelopmental Practitioners and an Assistant Psychologist. The team also has support from consultant psychiatry.

The successful candidate will provide specialist diagnostic assessment to children and young people through face-to-face assessments in a clinic setting. They will work collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to analyse information and to identify when further assessment is required in order to provide an outcome to the neurodevelopmental assessment. The successful applicant will also have opportunities to supervise Speech and Language Therapist students, contribute to learning and development within the CAMHS team and provide supervision to other members of the team.

ADOS Training and QB test training will be offered to the successful applicant if required and there is an extended induction period into the team.

The post is for 37.5 hours a week, and flexible working can be discussed.

Main duties of the job

To undertake neurodevelopmental assessments through a one-to-one assessment and a neurodevelopmental interview.

To offer additional assessments such as a school observation or ADOS.

To use the diagnostic criteria to analyse information obtained from assessment and present findings to the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

To participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings by supporting assessment discussions and formulation.

To feedback assessment outcomes verbally and in writing to children, young people and their support systems.

To offer supervision and training to the team.

To support and supervise SALT students on placement.

To contribute to service development.

JOB SUMMARY

To participate in the organisation, coordination, development and provision of the Calderdale Childrens Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service to ensure the provision of an efficient, high quality service.

This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The postholder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed.

The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in line with the service developments.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

To provide clinical expertise and advice on assessment, diagnosis and management of children with neurodevelopmental conditions

To provide clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team to inform their decision making and to provide advice and guidance to carers, non-clinical staff or members of other professions, who may be influenced by this and to maintain professional relationships with relevant others, working as part of the wider team

To participate in the planning and implementation of the day to day operation of the Calderdale Childrens Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service to this client group.

To prepare, implement and evaluate neurodevelopmental assessments for clients to ensure the delivery of designated standards of care consistent with departmental policies and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy Guidelines.

To develop, write, deliver and evaluate training packages with access to specialist support as required to parents, carers, other professional groups and speech and language therapists.

To provide mentoring, clinical supervision, peer support and joint visits for advice to Speech and Language Therapists, other professionals and assistants relevant to this clinical area.

To assist in the training and supervision of Speech and Language Therapy assistants, students from other professions and to be involved in the provision of full student placements in accordance with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy guidelines.

To participate in the development of innovations in the Calderdale Childrens Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service and related service delivery issues, risk management, quality standard setting and clinical effectiveness.

To maintain accurate and concise clinical records, providing appropriate reports, attend case conferences and reviews and to provide statistical information to facilitate future business planning in line with Trust guidelines.

To reflect on practice, both individually and with peers to identify own strengths and needs, demonstrate Continuing Professional Development and to maintain a portfolio or equivalent in line with professional and Trust guidelines
