Duties:

As a member of the Facilities team, snow removal crew will ensure the safety of the campus community by clearing snow and de-icing roadways, walkways, and stairs. Work under the supervision of a Zone Captain and be assigned a section to ensure safety. Work in a team to clear areas in priority order.

VIU's severe weather procedures aim to communicate closures by 6:30am. Therefore, work is required to begin between the hours of 2:00am to 5:00am. Duties are performed outdoors in winter weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education completion
  • Previous experience operating basic hand tools and equipment such as a snow blower or salt spreader
  • Physical ability to perform continuous moderate physical activity and intermittent periods of heavy lifting.
  • Ability to work in winter weather conditions
  • Snow crew wear their own weather-appropriate clothing and boots.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
