Posting Overview:

The Lambton Kent District School Board is seeking a Supervisor of Social Work/Mental Health Lead to provide strategic leadership for student wellness across the district. This role will coordinate, align, and implement a board-level comprehensive student mental health and addictions strategy and support mental health professionals in their delivery of interventions to students. This individual will provide leadership within the board and community and will support district capacity building for mental health services while supporting schools with evidence-informed practices and system navigation. The incumbent will serve as a liaison with provincial mental health initiatives, and will monitor and share implementation progress and learning.

As Supervisor of Social Work, key responsibilities include oversight and supervision of a team of mental health professionals who support K-12 students who may be experiencing mental health and well-being concerns. This role works to support school teams in understanding the role and scope of work of mental health professionals.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • A senior mental health professional - minimum of Master's level training in Social Work;

  • A regulated mental health professional; registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is mandatory;

  • Five years of relevant experience is required;

  • Possesses a clinical background with practical experience in schools and working with school teams to support students;

  • Extensive experience working with children and youth, across the tiers of mental health intervention (promotion, prevention, intervention, crisis, system navigation) in order to guide the implementation of the Mental Health Strategy and support staff;

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in mental health and addictions strategy development, coordination, and implementation;

  • Experience providing and/or facilitating adult learning, professional development and training;

  • Expertise in mental health service delivery.

Other Key Skills & Knowledge:

  • Work with system leaders in the board and community to further develop, implement and communicate a comprehensive Student Mental Health and Addictions Strategy;

  • Build organizational conditions, including infrastructure, protocols and role clarity, for effective school mental health;

  • Collaborate and work as a team member at the board and school level to enhance staff capacity to support student mental health and wellness;

  • Coordinate the delivery of mental health awareness and literacy programming for a range of stakeholders, drawing on senior clinical and leadership experience;

  • Assist in the selection, co-ordination and implementation of evidence-based mental health promotion and prevention programming strategies;

  • Work with community partners to develop an integrated system of care, and to facilitate navigation for students and their families;

  • Serve as a liaison for provincial mental health initiatives and collaborate with other mental health leaders across the province who are working closely with School Mental Health Ontario to share learning and to provide input to the development and implementation of provincial resources;

  • Submit reports to the Board and the Ministry of Education as required on project activities and findings, in conjunction with other educational initiatives including special education, equity, and safe schools;

  • Excellent communication, coordination and organizational skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment;

  • Access to reliable transportation; regular and potentially last-minute travel throughout the district will be required;

  • All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education – Student Support Services and Well-Being.

Position Effective Date & Length:

Non-union, 12 month, 35 hours/week.

Compensation:

Level 5 - $117,911 - $131,012/annum
