The Professional Development & Training (PDT) department at the Cowichan Campus plays a key role in the Cowichan Valley, providing professional development and training opportunities to meet the unique needs of the local community. PDT Cowichan offers an array of programming in support of learners transitioning to meaningful careers and/or further upskilling/reskilling for advancement in existing occupations. This position will have a focus on programming for Agriculture and Food Systems.

Program/course development
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners.
- Initiate and respond to Indigenous communities, industry, government organizations, businesses, and professional organizations to identify program/course needs.
- Coordinate the negotiation and development of contracts for program/course delivery with partner communities and organizations. Review with area Manager and forward to appropriate signing authority.
- Identify grant opportunities and prepare proposals.
- Assess current and future continuing education and service needs for community and region to identify the appropriate program/course mix to best serve these needs.
- Facilitate curriculum development for programs/courses.
Program/course planning
- Establish delivery plan and schedule for programs/courses.
- Develop program/course budgets.
- Coordinate the development of marketing strategies and required marketing material.
- Coordinate the recruitment of program/course participants.
- Coordinate the hiring of instructors and contractors with area Manager and Appointment Creator.
- Identify and coordinate the creation of required service agreements, purchase requisitions, and sales orders.
- Coordinate the creation and input of required program/course information with the Records and Registration Departments.
- Coordinate with external partners on logistics and delivery of contract training and health and safety issues for off-site training.
Program/course Implementation
- Monitor program/course budgets.
- Monitor student enrolment.
- Identify, respond to, and resolve program and course concerns and complaints.
- Provide on-going supports and communication with program/course participants.
- Data management for program statistics and planning.
Program/course Evaluation
- Gather and collate program/course feedback from students, instructors, and clients.
- Analyze financial performance for programs/courses and adjust tuition fees and expenses as needed for future deliveries.
- Coordinate the required reporting to external partners for program grants and contracts.
Completes general updates on the administrative area, faculty or department website (e.g., biographies, announcements, important dates, course information), ensuring information is current and accurate.
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in relevant subject area from an appropriately accredited institution. Seven or more years' experience demonstrating career growth and ongoing professional development in the area of professional development and training, proposal writing, project management and contract training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience building relationships and working with community organizations.
Experience building relationships and working with Indigenous communities.
Technology competencies to create and organize information, demonstrated understanding of security principles to protect privacy and information; communicate, present and disseminate information through appropriate media.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- LERN Certified Contract Trainer certification and/or LERN Certified Program Planner.
