Your Opportunity: Supportive Care Services within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) are delivered by a team of psychosocial and rehabilitation professionals dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals affected by cancer. These professionals provide expert care across the cancer care continuum—from diagnosis to end-of-life care—grounded in world-class research. We are looking for a Social Worker to serve as a Triage Coordinator with a primary focus on mental health, to join our Psychosocial Oncology team at the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Reporting to the Manager, the Mental Health Triage Social Worker II will play a key role in supporting cancer patients and their families through specialized psychosocial care, with a focus on triage and urgent mental health needs. This position requires advanced skills in crisis intervention, particularly in managing cases involving suicidal ideation and self-harm. Responsibilities include: Monitoring MySymptom Reports (MSR) for patients across CCA who report suicidal ideation and self-harm. Screening and triaging referrals to Psychosocial Oncology, locally and across CCA Conducting urgent and routine psychosocial assessments. Providing short-term supportive counselling and crisis intervention. Assisting patients and families in accessing internal and external resources. The Social Worker II also contributes to education for patients, families, and staff, helping build capacity to address urgent psychosocial concerns. This role supports program development and evaluation to meet accreditation standards related to suicide prevention. The caseload and days of work for all positions within Psychosocial Oncology may be subject to change based on operational considerations. Required Qualifications: Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) Additional Required Qualifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart & Stroke Foundation. Minimum of 2 years post-degree medical Social Work experience. Experience in adult oncology, and/or palliative care in an adult healthcare setting . Minimum 2 years’ experience in mental health support, suicide risk/crisis intervention (e.g. SPRAM, ASIST). Training and working experience in trauma-informed care, culturally safe practices, palliative care and patients facing life-limiting illnesses. In-depth knowledge and experience of community resources, financial supports, and system navigation. Experience providing virtual care within the last two years. Experience collaborating within interdisciplinary teams and navigating complex care systems. Excellent clinical documentation, care planning, and patient advocacy skills. Proficiency with Connect Care/EPIC. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Teams) Preferred Qualifications: 5 years of working experience in adult oncology. Understanding of the impact of Indigenous people’s history, culture and reconciliation. Experience working in Cancer Care Alberta as a Social Worker. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Working experience with harm reduction/risk mitigation approaches. Adult education/facilitation experience. Proficiency using validated distress screening tools. Experience with and knowledge of cancer-specific community and financial resources in Alberta.
