Title: Community Health Practice Consultant (Internal Only)

Salary: $102,490 - $125,736 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract: Term for 1 year

Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)

Location: West Kelowna or Kamloops, BC, located on the unceded ancestral territories of the Syilx or Secwépemc Nations – Hybrid working is an option in line with FNHA’s flex work policy.

About The Role

As a Community Health Practice Consultant, you will provide expert education, mentorship, and consultation to nurses delivering health services in First Nations communities across British Columbia. You will provide guidance to nursing practice, while also supporting community nurses in their development and implementation of community-based nursing programs. Drawing on hands-on experience in areas such as Community Health Nursing or Home and Community Care, you’ll display strong problem-solving skills and offer practical and culturally informed solutions to the unique challenges of nursing in remote and self-directed environments.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have/be –

Education, Registration, and Certifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Eligibility or current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Current CPR course for Health Care Providers (HCP).
  • Current certifications in immunizations and communicable disease.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience in community/public health nursing providing clinical practice support and education to nurses.
  • Nursing experience in First Nations communities.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of First Nations cultural principles, protocols, and traditional healing practices, with the ability to apply them in clinical settings.
  • Strong knowledge of community and public health models, including home care practices such as case management, wound care, and palliative care.
  • Solid foundation in nursing theory, the nursing process, and trans-cultural nursing concepts, including traditional, homeopathic, and other community healing practices.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to provide constructive, culturally sensitive feedback.

Abilities

  • Skilled in assessing nursing practice across diverse settings, including primary care, remote-certified practice, community and/or public health, and home care.
  • Proficient in identifying learning needs and developing tailored educational resources—such as learning tools, short courses, and in-service training—using adult learning principles to support professional growth and clinical excellence.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
