Senior Manager - Public Practice at Lambert Nemec Group
A dynamic and growth-focused public practice firm has partnered with Lambert Nemec Group in the recruitment of a Senior Manager. Reporting to the Partners of the firm, the successful candidate will take ownership of a group of files and build their own book of business, while managing and mentoring junior accountants.
Overview:
The Senior Manager plays a key leadership role within the firm, overseeing client engagements, managing professional staff, and ensuring the highest quality of service delivery. This role combines technical expertise, business development, and people leadership to support the firm’s growth and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Client & Engagement Management
- Oversee multiple client engagements across assurance, accounting, and advisory services, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Review complex financial statements, working papers, and tax filings for accuracy and compliance with relevant standards (ASPE, IFRS, and CRA).
- Provide strategic advice and value-added recommendations to clients on business operations, internal controls, and financial performance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, maintaining strong, long-term relationships and ensuring a high level of client satisfaction.
- Identify client needs and opportunities to expand service offerings across assurance, tax, and advisory.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Lead, mentor, and coach Managers, Senior Accountants, and junior staff, promoting professional growth and technical excellence.
- Oversee engagement planning, staffing, and workflow to ensure efficient and effective project delivery.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and support professional development and CPA training.
- Foster a positive, collaborative culture aligned with the firm’s values and commitment to quality service.
Technical Expertise & Quality Assurance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting, assurance, and tax standards, ensuring firm compliance with professional and regulatory requirements.
- Review complex and high-risk engagements, ensuring technical accuracy and consistency with firm policies.
- Support the development and implementation of best practices, templates, and methodologies to enhance engagement quality and efficiency.
- Assist with internal quality control reviews and preparation for external practice inspections.
Business Development & Practice Growth
- Collaborate with Partners to develop new business opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
- Participate in proposal writing, presentations, and networking activities to attract new clients.
- Contribute to strategic planning and the firm’s growth initiatives, including new service lines or market expansion.
Operational & Firm Leadership
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to firm-wide decision-making.
- Support initiatives related to technology adoption, process improvement, and operational efficiency.
- Assist in setting and achieving departmental budgets, profitability goals, and key performance metrics.
- Represent the firm professionally in the community and within the accounting profession.
Requirements:
- A Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA - CA, CMA, CGA)
- Proven team leadership and coaching experience
- High level of accuracy, critical thinking, and analytical ability
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- 5 plus years experience in public practice
- In-office with emergency flex opportunity
