Adoptions Supervisor at Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society
ABOUT US: Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) is a registered non-profit charity located in Calgary, Alberta helping over 4,000 animals find loving adoptive homes each year. Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals in need and provide community support programs that help people and their pets.
The Role: The Adoptions Supervisor plays a key role in leading and enhancing AARCS' adoption program. This position requires a strategic and creative individual to increase adoption rates and ensure that animals are matched with loving homes. The Adoptions Supervisor oversees a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, guiding them to meet organizational goals while providing excellent customer service and high standards of animal care. Success in this role demands strong leadership, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including staff, volunteers, and the community.

- Comfortable handling dogs, cats, and critters, including those with complex behaviors.
- Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Previous experience in animal shelter or adoption programs is considered an asset.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Support the day-to-day operations of the adoptions department, ensuring all processes run efficiently and effectively.
- Supervise Adoptions Coordinators, providing mentorship, performance evaluations and management, and support.
- Coordinate with other departments to assist with the smooth transition of animals from intake to adoption.
- Develop and implement innovative strategies and campaigns to boost adoptions and streamline the adoption process.
- Oversee the planning and execution of adoption events, including organizing staffing and volunteers, logistics, and marketing efforts, in collaboration with other departments and stakeholders.
- Ensure that adoption policies and procedures are followed consistently to maintain high standards of service and care.
- Track and analyze adoption data, generating regular reports to measure success and identify opportunities for growth or improvement.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date animal profiles in PetPoint and website to maximize exposure of adoptable animals.
- Address customer service issues, handling with professionalism and compassion. Escalate more complex issues as required.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Pet Store partners, maintaining relationships and addressing any concerns or needs as they arise. Manage the movement of cats and small animals, ensuring an adequate number are available in stores for adoption.
- Assist in training and developing both new and existing staff and volunteers, ensuring a consistent, high-quality adoption experience.
- Regularly participate in adoption initiatives by screening applications and facilitating adoptions. Provide coverage for Adoption Coordinators as needed.
- Act as the main point of contact for walk-in adoptions, handling inquiries, screenings, and the adoption process while coordinating additional staff support as needed.
- Provide on-call support to foster homes and/or shelter caregivers in the case of an emergency during a one week rotation, as needed, but approximately once every 12 weeks.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Education/Training:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three years management or supervisory experience, preferably in a similar field.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment within a busy animal shelter with a moderate to loud noise level.
- The position may involve exposure to dangerous and/or diseased animals.
- Ability to walk, reach overhead and lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to stand/sit/type for prolonged periods of time.

Shifts: Tuesday to Saturday, 8-hour shifts, Flexible schedule to accommodate operational needs.

Salary Range: $44,850 to $58,450.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
