Please note: The salary band for this position is currently under review. However, the expected starting range is between $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and qualifications.


The mission of the President’s Office is to support the President in advancing the strategic direction of the University. The staff of the President’s Office actively support the President in their efforts to advance the overall mission of the University by providing assistance and advice, engaging in strategic initiatives, arranging campus and community events/activities that reflect the strategic priorities of the President, administering the President’s calendar, correspondence and communications, and acting as the key liaison point for internal and external communications.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President, the Business Officer plays a key role in supporting the President in advancing the strategic direction of the University. This position is responsible for the planning, management, and administration of the President’s Office, including oversight of financial, human, and physical resources. Acting as an advisor to the President and Senior Management Team, the Business Officer contributes to strategic initiatives, partnership development, and operational excellence across the institution.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic operational and administrative leadership to support departmental goals.
  • Lead initiatives that promote inclusive excellence and community engagement.

Financial Management

  • Develop, monitor, and manage multiple budgets including the President’s Office operating budget and strategic funds.
  • Implement financial policies and procedures; ensure sound financial systems.
  • Participate in procurement processes and contract negotiations.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Represent the University in external partnerships and community initiatives.
  • Lead sponsorship, marketing, and communications for major events (e.g., YWCA Women of Distinction Awards, Canadian Black Scientists Network Conference).
  • Support strategic growth opportunities identified by the President.

Partnership Development

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including senior administration, Board of Governors, Senate, and community partners.
  • Develop and update partnership agreements (MOUs) in collaboration with academic and community partners.

Physical Resources Management

  • Plan and allocate physical resources including equipment and office space.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure optimal space utilization.

Human Resource Management

  • Provides direction and forecasting information regarding the goals and objectives for the department by examining, assessing, and forecasting both long-term and immediate human resources needs.
  • Coordinates the human resources function in the Office and provides advice and support to the President and the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President with regard to all human resources operational matters


Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of university financial policies and administrative processes.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, financial management, and partnership development.
