Job Description

The Planner I (18 Month Limited Term) in Production Support coordinates production sequence within their area and work-station workload while monitoring manufacturing schedule adherence and productivity. This role is responsible for monitoring on time material availability, status of production shop orders and tracking of physical and transactional production progress to enable smooth flow of production activities within their respective stage of construction.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. This is an 18 month limited term position.

What You’ll Do

  • Builds material master data and structures for production work packages that include production material information, material lists and structures to release production shop orders as required by schedule.
  • Reviews and collects all information required by production to commence work prior to production start.
  • Initiates change planning requests and coordinates changes with engineering, planning, production control and trades.
  • Schedules material work packages within defined windows (milestone, key event and zone schedules). Ensures material planning, production and program deliverables are aligned.
  • Monitors Work In Progress and on time material availability to ensure they remain within the company limits. Prepares reports on progress for management using internal system.
  • Works with production and area management to sequence and prioritize manufacturing, assembly and installation activities.
  • Tracks physical and transactional production progress.
  • Inputs material work package data by schedules and budgets into MRP system.
  • Creates and maintains the Production Bill of Material (PBOM). Reviews and maintains data in ERP system with actual progress achieved.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring

  • Diploma or Technical certification in Trades or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree is desirable.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in planning and production control (shipbuilding industry is preferred).
  • Experience in utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning (IFS is preferred).
  • Knowledge of modern ship design and production processes.
  • Understanding of shipbuilding strategy concepts, manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, scheduling and resource management.
  • Technical skills with ability to read blueprint.
  • Organizational skills and ability to maintain organized under pressure and in changing environment.
  • Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to gather and interpret relevant information.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well independently or in a team environment and communicate across functions.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly.

The estimated salary for this position is $73,800 - $90,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
