About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an Asset Integrity Inspector to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.


Reporting to the Asset Integrity Supervisor, the Asset Integrity Inspector is primarily responsible for planning and coordinating non-destructive testing activities, as well as performing inspections of pressure equipment and related fabrication processes. The goal is to ensure safe and reliable petrochemical operations that fully comply with construction codes, provincial regulations, Methanex Project Standards, and corporate best practices.


More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the daily implementation and compliance of the owner-user program (PEIM). This includes all elements: training, review meetings, audits, audit action items, NCR’s and ensuring systems are functioning effectively
  • Ensure ABSA documentation is current and applied
  • Ensure equipment inspection meets all regulatory requirements and establish inspection intervals in accordance with the applicable code, regulator and the internal Risk Based Inspection (RBI) process
  • Support the Risk Based Inspection program
  • Approve inspection procedures and inspection reports that affect integrity of pressure equipment. Provide corrective actions
  • Support the safety relief valve maintenance program
  • Maintain management systems such as: Equipment files, Pinnacle Allassets and Maximo
  • Conduct Integrity Assessments of pressure equipment, tanks, piping, and components, and provide recommendations for corrosion mitigation/production optimization
  • Participate in, or initiate Management of Change (MOC) processes as related to the integrity of pressure equipment
  • Review and approve contractor Quality Control Programs and Inspection Test Plans for Methanex contracts
  • Support all pressure equipment fabrication or repair processes by developing ITPs, ensuring material compliance, performing visual inspection of welds, coordinating NDE, witnessing pressure testing and completing data reports


About You

To qualify, you will need a relevant trade certification or post-secondary diploma in materials engineering technology, welding engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, chemical engineering, or equivalent previous inspection experience. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Control, Asset Integrity, or related inspection roles is also essential, along with knowledge of the Alberta Safety Codes Act and Regulations, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes, and relevant industry standards.


Additionally, the following skills or experience are assets:

  • CWB Level 1 Inspector – ASME B31.3 preferred endorsement
  • API 510 Certification; ABSA In-Service Inspector designation
  • Additional certifications such as National Board, API 570, API 580, or API 653
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required
