The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students attending a variety of programs across 66 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Custodial team in the capacity of Permanent Unassigned Caretaker.
Location: Unassigned; including but not limited to: Orangeville, Shelburne, North Wellington, and Erin
Hours of work/FTE: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay: Base hourly rate: $25.05 per hour (probationary rate), $26.65 per hour (permanent rate); wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Board Information: 12 months; permanent, full-time; Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
Responsibilities:
The Caretaker – Unassigned support role duties include but are not limited to:
- Opening and closing of sites
- Snow removal – salting and sanding
- Water flushing
- Cleaning of classrooms, offices, cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, washrooms, and all related areas as directed by the Head Caretaker, Shift Supervisor or designate
- Daily check logs
- Operating the Clorox 360 Machine if required
- Head Caretaker duties
- Additional duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
- Able to lift up to 50lbs
- Able to be successfully fit tested for an N95 respirator and maintain proper fit
- An understanding of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS program
- Independent, self-motivated and detail oriented
- Knowledge of computer applications as required by the position
- Strong mechanical aptitude is considered would be considered an asset
- Basic understanding of heating and ventilation equipment would be considered an asset
