Responsibilities

The West Vancouver Utilities Operations Department is accepting applications for a permanent, full-time Supervisor III – Water and Wastewater Treatment Supervisor. The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Inspecting, monitoring, controlling, and maintaining all aspects of the Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities;
  • Organizing and scheduling routine work, participating in project planning and management, and liaising with Municipal Staff, community group, and members of the public;
  • Providing project management plans that include full details for project implementation, project scheduling, pre-job preparation requirements, coordination with other departments, internal and / or contracted labour needs, and internal and / or hired equipment needs;
  • Providing supervisory leadership by assisting and coaching field staff in the resolution of work-related issues, conducting routine employee evaluations, and maintaining daily timesheets and producing reports pertaining to employee time and attendance;
  • Assisting the Operations Manager in absentee management, implementing modified return to work programs for staff;
  • Providing technical expertise and inspecting work to ensure conformity to specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety regulations;
  • Receiving and investigating complaints, determining responsibilities, advising complainants, and initiating effective remedial actions;
  • Reviewing the requirements for equipment, staff, materials and tools, and allocating them appropriately to projects;
  • Preparing, reviewing, and finalizing work order documentation and reporting within the District’s computerized maintenance management system, Maintenance Connection;
  • Working with Engineering Support Services to generate, manage, and schedule work orders via Maintenance Connection;
  • Performing after-hours response as part of a stand-by operations rotation; and
  • Performing other related work as required.

The Successful Candidate Will Possess

  • Thorough working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of micro and ultra-filtration membranes and related equipment;
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety procedures required in the operation of the plants and related facilities;
  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Water and Wastewater Technology;
  • EOCP Certification – Water Treatment Operator Level 3, or 4, Small Wastewater Systems;
  • W.H.M.I.S Training;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of B.C.

The Preferred Candidate Will Possess

  • EOCP Certification – Chlorine Handling
  • EOCP Certification – Water Distribution Operator Level 1, 2, 3 or 4
  • EOCP Certification – Wastewater Treatment Operator Level 1, 2 or 3
  • Two years of related experience in the operation of a Level 4 Membrane Water Treatment Plant
  • Experience with Pall micro-filtration and Zeeweed 1000 series membrane plants

The successful candidate has: 2 years of related experience working at supervisory level; OR some combination of post-secondary education or training, plus 5 years of related experience including 2 years at a supervisory level; sound technical knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and construction of the infrastructure in a related field; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong leadership capabilities providing guidance and supervision support to a team; and ability to make sound judgment independently.
