Under the supervision of the Senior Engineer, this position is responsible for planning, designing, and executing capital projects for the Natural Gas telecommunications network.
The work involves radio system implementation, technical support, and asset lifecycle management. The successful candidate will work with engineers and technologists within the company and externally with suppliers and contractors. Under the supervision of the Senior Engineer, this position is responsible for planning, designing, and executing capital projects for the Natural Gas telecommunications network.
The work involves radio system implementation, technical support, and asset lifecycle management. The successful candidate will work with engineers and technologists within the company and externally with suppliers and contractors. This position has a focus on telecommunications and electrical systems including:
- UHF and microwave radios
- Antenna technology
- VHF land mobile radio systems
- IP networks
- Point-to-point radio links, area coverage, and interference studies
- Radio tower infrastructure including:
- Buildings, HVAC, fencing, access roads
- Emergency generators, transfer switches, uninterruptible power supplies, batteries
- Propane/natural gas fuel systems
- Electrical systems (AC/DC power distribution, lighting, security, grounding, etc.)
- Design, manage, and execute projects with a focus on safety and adherence to applicable codes, acts, regulations, company policies, and landowner requests.
- Project management activities include drawing set creation and authentication, scheduling, obtaining permits, procurement, budget forecasting, and reporting.
- Complete point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and area coverage studies using radio modeling software such as Pathloss and EDX SignalPro.
- Support field operations staff with system troubleshooting and project execution.
- Contribute to the creation of telecommunications design standards and material specifications.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, or equivalent).
- 5-10 years of experience in telecommunications industry.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
- Strong understanding of radio propagation principles including, but not limited to VHF, UHF, and microwave radio bands.
- Good theoretical knowledge of radio and antenna system design.
- Experience with low-voltage AC and DC power distribution system design.
- Experience with designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting IP networks. CCNA, CISSP, CISM, CISA designation would be an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access, Teams, and Outlook.
- Excellent time management, problem solving, decision making, organization, and planning skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
