Summary

The Project Manager oversees and coordinates all aspects of both construction and lifecycle projects from inception to completion for a large District Energy System provider. This role involves managing budgets, timelines, resources, and teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the required quality standards. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact between clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and problem-solving throughout the project lifecycle. This individual provides leadership in this role as a critical member of the Private Partner within a Public-Private-Partnership (P3) context.

Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling:

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to finalize designs and specifications.


Budget Management:

  • Prepare and manage project budgets from $50K to $10M.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure cost control throughout the project lifecycle.


Team Coordination:

  • Lead and manage construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure accountability.


Contract Administration:

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and resolve disputes.


Quality Assurance

  • Implement quality control procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure work meets standards and specifications.


Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed, and regulatory compliance is maintained.


Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on project status, challenges, and achievements.


Permits & Regulations

  • Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are obtained.
  • Managing the permitting requirement from the National Capital Commission.
  • Stay up to date with local building codes and environmental regulations.


Resource Management

  • Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maintain efficiency.


Project Close-Out

  • Oversee final inspections and handover procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed and archived properly.


Requirements

  • Is authorized to work in Canada;
  • Strong health and safety mindset and culture;
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in construction management, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related fields;
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in managing projects within an industrial environmental and/or utility production environment;
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations that are applied in provinces of Ontario and Quebec;
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore);
  • PMP or equivalent certification is an asset;
  • Ability to ensure safe and efficient operations in an industrial setting;
  • Health and safety minded individual;
  • Ability to obtain Secret level security clearance;
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
