Overview: The Director, Marketing and Revenue Development plays a pivotal role within the Elks’ Marketing & Communications Department by driving revenue growth through innovative, data-driven strategies, enhanced brand visibility, and integrated advertising campaigns. This position leads the Club’s creative team, including the video producer, videographer, and graphic designer, as well as the social media coordinator and digital marketing specialist, to ensure consistent, compelling brand representation across all aligned revenue-generating platforms.

The Director, Marketing and Revenue Generation, also serves as the key liaison between the Marketing, Ticketing, Partnerships, Community, and Merchandise departments, ensuring seamless execution of sponsored assets and effective cross-department collaboration that supports organizational objectives.

Key Accountabilities

Budget & Strategy

  • Actively and collaboratively work with Partnerships, Ticketing, Community, and Merchandise departments to ensure that revenue generation is the core priority for all departments, including Marketing.
  • Manage the marketing budget with a focus on optimizing ROI and ensuring efficient allocation across campaigns and channels.
  • Monitor market trends, industry innovation, and fan behavior to drive continuous improvement and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Actively manage and assess the productivity of marketing team members.
  • Oversee relationships with external vendors and agencies to ensure cost-effective execution and high-quality deliverables.

Creative & Brand Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing team, fostering creativity, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Set clear goals and performance metrics to ensure accountability and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Actively manage and assess team productivity and workload to maximize output and efficiency.
  • Partner with senior leadership to forecast marketing expenditures, evaluate results, and adjust plans based on data-driven insights.

Campaign & Advertising Management

  • Actively participate in the acquisition and expansion of our Marketable fans.
  • Plan, execute, and optimize digital and traditional advertising campaigns from concept through delivery to expand and engage the marketable fan base.
  • Manage all aspects of ad placement, including creative development, copywriting, audience targeting, campaign spending, and real-time adjustments.
  • Oversee marketing automation through the use of Braze while ensuring audience lists and data are accurate and up to date.
  • Generate campaign reports and performance analytics to inform strategy, improve performance, and support business decisions.
  • Develop and manage data-driven lifecycle programs that nurture fans through acquisition, retention, and re-engagement.
  • Leverage segmentation, automation, and personalized messaging to deepen fan connection, reduce churn, and drive fan lifetime value.
  • Develop and implement strategies that enhance brand awareness, authority, and consistency across all platforms.
  • Work with the Communications department to ensure:
    • Clear, consistent marketing messages across direct-to-fan channels (email and texts)
    • Strong narrative and storytelling are aligned across marketing and communications materials.
Skills & Qualifications

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with Braze and Tradable Bits.
  • Proven experience in brand management and creative direction.
  • Strong understanding of lifecycle marketing and reporting strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and analyze advertising campaigns.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing tools, trends, and best practices.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Professional demeanor and collaborative mindset.
  • Strong working knowledge of social media as a business growth tool.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required:
  • In-person for all Elks home games.
  • Based in Edmonton for most away games, with select travel as needed.

Experience

  • Minimum 4–5 years of marketing experience, ideally within the sports, entertainment, or event industry.

Education

  • Post-secondary diploma or university degree in Marketing, Sports Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
