The National HSE Manager is responsible for:
Develop a Strong HSE and Compliance Culture
- Implement overall strategic direction, planning and organization of Geochemistry priorities
- Coordinate and communicate corporate HSE and Compliance responsibilities between the North American HSE resources
- Support the region when dealing with local governmental regulatory entities as needed
- Review and report on North American HSE performance monthly
- Develop and support best practice principals to improve consistency with global HSE and compliance programs and tools
- Assess, interpret, and implement all requirements of the HSE regulations in all ALS locations within Geochemistry North America
- Ensure compliance with all HSE regulatory needs
- Enforce safety standards group, identify and monitor corrective actions to ensure compliance.
- Support an HSE culture of reporting, review and corrective actions
- Lead the North America Geochemistry team to develop and support corporate initiatives and programs
- Focus on Injury management and monitor and support all occupational claims within the region
- Develop programs to reduce high risk elements through Life Saving Rules and review of incident trends
- Review and report on PPI program metrics and locally support compliance
- Participate in or manage local HSE audits
- Manage and maintain local monitoring programs to include air testing, personal testing, environmental testing.
- Review and manage lead and silica exposure control plans.
- Engage in sustainability activities related to risk reduction in the geochemistry group.
- Engage in sustainability activities related to corporate objectives and their adaptation to the geochemistry group.
- Ensure appropriate mandatory training (Induction, specialty roles, refresher)
- Provide guidance and support to regional HSE Managers in Canada, USA and Mexico
- Mentor, coach and develop regional HSE Managers to grow talent and skills on the team
- Set functional expectations regarding the Global and North America HSE program communicating these expectations in collaboration with Operational Leadership
- To have an understanding of the company’s major HSE policies.
- To have an understanding of the company’s safety & environmental requirements as set out in the ALS HSE Management System.
- To ensure that the business is compliant with ALS requirements for Health, Safety and the Environment.
- To assess, audit, report and rectify any compliance concern, unsafe practice or environmental harm.
- To develop and further improve the safety & sustainability culture within the business unit through strong leadership.
- To comply with current state OHS legislation.
- Completion of a university degree, College level or Institutional Occupational Health and Safety Program or equivalent is desired
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility for Health and Safety outcomes and management experience
- Minimum of 3 years leadership experience
- Maintains a level of expertise in health, safety and environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Strong organizational skills and follow-through
- Positive and professional image
- Possess tact and communication skills to work effectively with agencies and government
- Demonstrated judgement, creativity, integrity and ability to problem solve
- Excellent English communication skills both written and verbal
- Any other requests directed from the global HSE Manager or GM
- An estimated annual salary ranging from $135,000 - $150,000 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
