City: Ottawa, ON
Contract type: Full time
Preferred Location: Ottawa
Reports to: COO
Type: Full-Time
About Dominion Dynamics
Dominion Dynamics is building Canada’s first modern defence prime: software-defined, attritable, and sovereign.
We believe tomorrow’s military power won’t hinge on exquisite platforms, but on the seamless coordination of adaptable, AI-driven capabilities across every domain. We’re building that family of systems, fielded with operators, sovereign by design, and accountable to Canada’s democratic values.
We move fast, deploy with the CAF, especially in the Arctic, and operate with uncompromising respect for Canadian law, treaty obligations, and the CAF community.
Our founding team includes former operators from Anduril, Google, Amazon, and the Canadian Armed Forces. We’re building hard tech in hard places, and we're looking for system-level thinkers who thrive at the intersection of autonomy, aerospace, and national security.
Why This Role Matters
Reliable power is the backbone of every Dominion system. Our autonomous and sensing platforms operate in extreme, off-grid environments where cold, limited generation, and constrained logistics challenge endurance. This role translates mission requirements into robust energy architectures that span generation, conversion, storage, and control systems to keep platforms powered, maintainable, and field-ready. Your work bridges the gap between prototype and deployable capability.
The Role: Power Systems Engineer - Electrical Integration
You’ll design, integrate, and validate end-to-end power systems for generation, storage, conversion, controls, and protection. This role enables lab development through field trials and production with suppliers.
What You’ll Do
At Dominion Dynamics, we’re designing systems that work where others fail, in the most extreme environments on Earth.
At Dominion Dynamics you’ll:

You’ll design, integrate, and validate end-to-end power systems for generation, storage, conversion, controls, and protection. This role enables lab development through field trials and production with suppliers.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement electronic systems for standalone and hybrid renewable energy solutions (solar PV, wind, micro-hydro, battery storage, and backup generation).
- Develop control and monitoring circuitry for power management, charge controllers, and inverter systems.
- Evaluate and integrate sensors, MPPT controllers, and communication modules for real-time energy monitoring and diagnostics.
- Design and optimize DC–DC converters, inverters, and battery management systems (BMS).
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and mechanical teams to ensure full system integration and compliance with relevant MIL-STDs and other commercial and safety standards.
- Support system modeling, simulation, and prototyping for various load and environmental conditions.
- Develop safety, grounding, and surge protection strategies for off-grid and grid-connected configurations.
- Conduct performance testing, field validation, and troubleshooting of deployed systems in remote locations.
- Prepare detailed documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, installation instructions, operating guidelines, and test procedures/reports.
- Research emerging technologies in renewable integration, microgrids, and distributed energy systems.

- Experience with renewable power sources, power converters, and grid interconnection systems.
- Strong knowledge of DC and AC power electronics (inverters, rectifiers, converters).
- Experience with microcontrollers or embedded systems for energy management and remote monitoring.
- Working knowledge of energy storage technologies (Li-ion, lead-acid, or flow batteries) and BMS design.
- Understanding of grid-tie and islanding operation principles, synchronization, and power factor correction.
- Proficiency in EDA/PCB design tools (i.e., Altium, KiCad) and simulation tools (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Familiarity with communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, IoT telemetry).
- Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards (MIL-STD, CSA, IEEE, NEC, IEC).
