Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) provides Supportive Care services through a dedicated team of healthcare professionals focused on improving the quality of life for individuals affected by cancer. Support is offered from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment, and beyond. The CCA team leads in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care, all based on world-class research. The Psychosocial Oncology Counselling team at the Cross Cancer Institute/Edmonton General Continuing Care satellite location is seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinical Counselling Social Worker (SWIII) to join the team in a permanent role. The role is vital in delivering psycho-oncological interventions based on evidence-informed practices for patients and their support people. Under the general supervision of the Manager, SW III will apply advanced clinical knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate mental, emotional, and behavioral conditions related to cancer diagnoses and treatments. Psychosocial interventions include individual, couple, and group counselling and psychotherapy, available through both in-person and virtual appointments. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues, members of the multidisciplinary team, and internal/external agencies to provide coordinated cancer care. The SWIII will also participate in continuous professional and program development, including supervising students, teaching, orientation as well as engaging in quality improvement activities and research. Please note the caseload and hours for all positions in this program may change based on operational needs.

Description:

As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Clinical Designation or Authorization to Perform Restricted Psychosocial Interventions. BCLS-HCP- Heart & Stroke Foundation. Within last year, experience providing psycho-oncological counselling to adults using evidence-based therapy models (e.g. trauma-focused therapy, CBT, SET). Within the last two years, experience working with adult patients in cancer care, palliative care, and/or outpatient clinic settings. Within the last year, experience using virtual health. Within the last year, experience with individuals, couples, families, and groups to assess, diagnose and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral conditions as well as evaluate client response to treatment. Experience and/or formal training in administering and interpreting assessment instruments. Knowledge and application of harm reduction and risk mitigation approaches. Demonstrated dedication to professional development. Experience supervising students. Proficient with EPIC/Connect Care and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent Communication, both verbally and in writing. Ability to engage and foster professional and therapeutic relationships. Ability to manage an emotionally demanding caseload.

Preferred Qualifications:

A pattern of professional development in oncology and/ or palliative care. Three years of counseling experience in an adult urban setting. Experience in design/delivery clinical training to staff/students, provision of trauma therapy using evidence-based approaches and group therapy. Membership in the ACSW Clinical Specialty Registry. Within the past five years, involved in leadership of formal research projects in collaboration with academic institutions.
