Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join the Grey Nuns Hospital Addictions and Mental Health Portfolio. This position oversees a 10 bed Acute Inpatient Unit (Unit 92) and the Neuromodulation Unit (Unit 17). Reporting to the Program Manager, the Unit Manager will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide leadership, foster positive team culture, and lead clinical care. As Unit Manager, you will be at the forefront of redefining service delivery, an instrumental part of change management, and a leader in the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality improvement. The position works in partnership with Physicians and other Unit Managers to maintain and/or enhance program goals and objectives, while engaging in all disciplines to address and resolve unit specific issues and concerns. As a Unit Manager, you are responsible for the day-to-day unit operations including direct supervision of staff. This role interacts with interdisciplinary teams within Covenant Health sites and with other community stakeholders. The Unit Manager collaborates within the Grey Nuns Hospital by participating in working groups and committees. Description:

Unit 92 is a 10-bed psychiatric intensive care unit that cares for involuntary patients certified under the mental health act. The unit is staffed with Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, an Assistant Head Nurse, and a Unit Clerk. The unit is supported by Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Psychologists, Psychometrist, Addiction Counselor, Secretary III, Health Care Aides, and Psychiatrists. This unit has approximately 24 direct reports. Unit 17 is the Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PPHP) who serves both inpatient and outpatients at the Grey Nuns Hospital. With 8 stretcher beds, both Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and IV Ketamine 5 days a week. The unit is staffed with Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and a Unit Clerk. The unit is supported by an anesthesiologist, respiratory therapists, psychiatrists, and a social worker. This unit has approximately 9 direct reports. This position is non-unionized.

    Required Qualifications:

    Graduate of Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse Program and currently registered with a regulatory body. Strong leadership skills and ability to provide instruction and direction related to best practice in Addiction and Mental Health. Must be able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and support with conflict resolution. Expertise in effective change management, quality improvement, and a commitment to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices is required. Must have proven dependability and accountability with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Addiction and Mental Health.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Have strong communication to consult and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in both hospital and community settings. An excellent attendance record and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment record and references. Heart and Stroke BLS Level C Health Care Provider, NVCI certificate, and strong de-escalation skills preferred.
