We are seeking a seasoned Human Resources Manager to serve as the sole HR practitioner supporting a small, high-performing team of researchers and organizational leadership.
In this highly visible role, you will oversee the entire employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding through performance management, development, and offboarding—while managing the core HR operations and compliance functions.
You bring a robust generalist background with deep expertise in recruitment, employee relations, and HR operations, coupled with the ability to execute with precision. With 10+ years of progressive HR experience, you excel at hands-on delivery in a dynamic, intellectually driven environment.
This role offers flexibility to work onsite or hybrid, with 2–3 days per week in our downtown Vancouver office.

What You’ll Do
- Act as the primary HR advisor to leadership, providing strategic guidance across all HR disciplines.
- Lead and execute end-to-end recruitment efforts, with a focus on attracting and retaining top-tier talent.
- Use data and analytics to inform recruitment strategies—identifying patterns, refining selection criteria, and shaping decision-making around talent acquisition and fit.
- Partner with leadership to design and implement performance management processes, including goal-setting, evaluations, and career development.
- Apply the same data-driven, analytical lens to performance management—using insights to assess individual and team performance, identify development opportunities, and inform improvement strategies.
- Oversee the onboarding and integration of new hires to ensure a positive and productive start.
- Manage employee relations, advising on conflict resolution, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and sensitive personnel matters with discretion and professionalism.
- Oversee HR operations, including documentation, reporting, and record management.
- Ensure compliance with the B.C. Employment Standards Act and all applicable employment legislation.
- Manage relationships with external legal and immigration advisors, ensuring accurate and timely support for employment and visa matters.
- Administer and optimize HR systems, technology platforms, and employee-related tools.
- Manage general office administration functions, supporting smooth operational execution.
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience managing the full employee lifecycle from recruitment to offboarding.
- Demonstrated success operating independently as a sole HR function within a small or scaling organization preferred.
- Proven ability to recruit and assess technical professionals, ensuring both capability and cultural alignment.
- Experience leveraging data and analytics to inform decisions in both recruitment and performance management contexts.
- Strong foundation in employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
- Knowledge of HR compliance, including B.C. Employment Standards and best practices.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Exceptional interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with leadership and technical teams.
- High integrity, discretion, and professionalism in managing confidential information.
- Proficiency with G Suite and HR technology tools.
