Software Engineer - Core Engineer

Job Summary

Our client in Kanata, ON is looking for a Software Engineer - Core Engineer. This is a contract position.

What You Will Do

We are seeking an experienced Jira Cloud Administrator to join our team in an on-call capacity, supporting a large-scale Jira Cloud environment with approximately 30,000 users. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, configuration, and ongoing support of Jira Cloud, Jira Service Management (JSM), Confluence, and related Atlassian tools. You will leverage your expertise in ScriptRunner, Python, and Git/GitHub to automate processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure optimal performance and reliability for our client's Atlassian ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record managing large Jira Cloud instances, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. This is a unique opportunity to support one of the largest Atlassian Cloud instances.

Service Desk Service Desk: Our team utilizes JSM to triage and address users requests.

Basics

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on administration experience with Jira Cloud, including Jira Service Management (JSM).
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Prior administration experience with Atlassian Analytics, Jira Product Discovery, and Compass.
  • Prior experience supporting Jira Cloud instances with at least 5,000 users (preferably 10,000+).
  • Proficiency in Confluence administration and integration with Jira Cloud.
  • Strong scripting skills using ScriptRunner for Jira.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python development for automation and integrations.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with Git and GitHub for version control and workflow management.
  • Experience providing on-call support for enterprise-scale Atlassian environments.

  • Ability to construct basic scripts leveraging REST API calls.
  • Experience with pull requests, branching and Git fundamentals Jira.
  • Ability to configure workflows, custom fields, permission schemes, issue level security.
  • Experience with Azure / Entra (or other Identity provider) integration is expected.
  • Experience with collaborating with customers to configure a JSM service desk.
  • Onsite, expected to be at the office at leat 4 days a week.


Preferred

  • Familiarity with Atlassian Forge app development.
  • Exposure to large-scale migrations or consolidations within Atlassian Cloud products.
  • Experience with Atlassian Access and enterprise user management.
  • Familiarity with SAML SSO and identity provider integrations (Okta, Azure AD, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Atlassian Marketplace apps and their administration.
  • Experience with advanced Jira automation (native and third-party tools).
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and service management frameworks.
  • Exposure to Atlassian Cloud-to-Cloud migrations.
  • Experience with incident and change management processes.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in Atlassian Cloud.
  • Experience training or onboarding end-users and admins.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Exposure to Atlassian Insight/Assets for asset management.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Opsgenie, PagerDuty).
  • Experience working in a distributed or fully remote team environment
