About the Position

As an integral part of the team, you will be responsible for delivering outstanding customer service with respect to all aspects of group fitness instruction. Fitness instructors lead, instruct, and motivate groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and stretching. They work with people of all ages and skill levels.

Ideal candidates will be certified to offer Aqua Fit classes, as well as Warm Water Therapy classes:

Schedule: 1-2 weekly classes
Availability Required: Weekday mornings (between 9am-1pm) - including a Monday 10:15am AquaFit class
Start date: December 1

Specific responsibilities:

• Teach scheduled classes, beginning & ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, & cool down.
• Demonstrate how to carry out various exercises and routines.
• Watch clients do exercises and show or tell them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness.
• Give alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill.
• Monitor clients’ progress and adapt programs as needed.
• Explain & enforce safety rules & regulations on sports, recreational activities, & use of exercise equipment.
• Give clients information or resources about nutrition, weight control, & lifestyle issues within your scope of practice.
• Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
• Ensure that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
• Willing to work early mornings, evenings and weekends depending on clients’ needs and class schedule.
• Performs related duties as required

Qualifications:

• At this time we are seeking a certified Aquatic Fitness Instructor - AFLCA, Canfit, or Water Art certified
• Experience offering AquaFit and/or Warm Water Therapy classes
• Other types of Group Fitness experience and/or certifications are an asset.
• CPR-C certification is required. Intermediate First Aid is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated skills in: active listening, motivating others, physical fitness, problem-solving, and public speaking.
• Your knowledge of fitness, sport and wellness is augmented by a customer service approach, commitment to positive communication, and the ability to motivate others in a respectful manner.
• Demonstrate flexibility & initiative to promote innovation in the work environment and in your fitness practice.
