Job Description

North Central Co-op is hiring a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position will be based out of our Stony Plain office and will oversee operations across Edmonton and surrounding areas.

One of Alberta's largest member-owned co-operatives, North Central Co-op serves over 140,000 members in and around Edmonton. It has approximately 700 employees and generates approximately $450 million in sales yearly.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, this executive role leads organizational performance and strategic direction across our diverse operations. You’ll drive growth, profitability, and transformational change while fostering strong stakeholder relationships and aligning initiatives with our mission, vision, and values.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute strategic direction in collaboration with the Board, ensuring alignment with vision, mission, and values.
  • Lead financial stewardship, including budgeting, reporting, risk management, and oversight of capital projects and mergers/acquisitions.
  • Oversee operations to ensure safe, sustainable, and efficient practices, driving innovation and profitability.
  • Provide transformational leadership, guiding recruitment, performance management, succession planning, and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure compliance and safety, maintaining adherence to brand standards, health and safety regulations, and environmental policies.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships, including members, customers, FCL, CRS, and community partners, to enhance organizational reputation and growth.

Who You’ll Work With

You will work closely with the Board of Directors, Federated Co-operatives Limited and other organizations within the Co-operative Retailing System and will have 6 direct report(s). This team strives to cultivate a culture of Community, Integrity, Excellence and Responsibility.

Who You Are

You are looking for a career in Executive Leadership and:

  • Have 15+ years of management experience across multiple retail commodities (e.g., food stores, gas bars/convenience stores, petroleum, agriculture, pharmacy), with 10+ years leading large teams and complex projects.
  • Have a post-secondary Bachelor’s degree, (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Are familiar with Corporate Governance & Board Relations.
  • You are honest and trustworthy.
