Position Overview:
Reporting to the VP, Customer Solutions & Experience, we are seeking an Enterprise Lead, Grid Modernization Strategy & Program to lead the strategic, governance and program management functions of Manitoba Hydro's enterprise Grid Modernization Program. This leadership role is expected to use frequent and ongoing collaboration and alignment with both internal and external parties to develop a robust 5-year program plan designed to enable capabilities such as Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) and Advanced Data Management System (ADMS).
The role will ensure that the overall grid modernization program is delivering strategic value to improve safety, grid reliability and resilience, customer experience, affordability and operational efficiency. The role will work closely with the Director Energy Service Advice & Products and other interdependent project owners to enable new products and services that will support provincial electrification objectives, customer needs and strategic outcomes that deliver innovative pilots and solutions such as customer-owned distributed energy resources (i.e., demand response, vehicle-to-grid & batteries). The Enterprise Lead is also expected to work with the Chief Operations Officer to ensure the enterprise Grid Modernization program is championing cross-functional collaboration, cultural enablement and support reimagination of operating models to optimize program delivery of value at speed and scale.
The Enterprise Lead is also responsible for ensuring alignment of the enterprise grid modernization program with enterprise strategy, regulatory requirements, budgeting, investment planning, information and operational technology architecture, enterprise data strategy, cybersecurity requirements and long-term planning frameworks such as the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Enterprise Strategy to quantify strategic outcomes and ensure grid modernization supports corporate objectives.
- Oversee program governance development including roles, responsibilities, and terms of reference.
- Collaborate with internal business units and external consultants to ensure strategic and operational alignment.
- Champion cultural change and cross-functional collaboration across the organization.
- Lead enterprise-wide planning and prioritization of grid modernization investments, ensuring alignment with long-term financial forecasts and resource planning.
- Navigate complexity, drive innovation, performance and inspire a unified culture through demonstration of our values.
- Provide executive-level reporting and presentations to the Executive Leadership Team and stakeholders.
- Ensure integration of grid modernization initiatives with existing systems and processes.
- Support planning and budgeting for capabilities such as D-SCADA, ADMS, DERMS, AMI, and related platforms.
- Guide development of target operating model and workforce strategy.
- Provide input into regulatory filings and proceedings related to grid modernization technologies and customer programs.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to modernization outcomes, including safety, reliability, and customer experience.
- Track emerging technologies, market trends, and customer expectations to inform roadmap adjustments and innovation opportunities.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and transformation across business units impacted by modernization.
Qualifications:
- A University Degree of recognized standing in engineering, business, or a related discipline with a minimum of ten years progressive leadership experience in utility operations, grid modernization, or strategic planning. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams and complex transformation initiatives.
- Deep understanding of grid modernization technologies and platforms.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
- Experience working within a vertically integrated utility.
- Experience in regulatory proceedings, public forums, board governance, government relations are considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of federal and provincial energy and environmental policies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead transformation in a complex, regulated utility environment.
- Proven ability to inspire and coach cross-functional teams toward strategic outcomes.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $177,622.90-$222,081.08 Annually.
