What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide care to patients recovering from a variety of addictions within a therapeutic milieu environment
- As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will support the principles of the Addictions program through a group model
- Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned, and direct the work of others
- Provide nursing care on units across the Addiction Medicine Program as required
- Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophy and diversified patient populations
- Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
- Ensure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various other times
- Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate
- Act as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as appropriate
- Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences
- Accept changing work assignments across the Addiction Medicine Program as required and directed by supervisor and/or delegate
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse with the CNO, in good standing
- BScN preferred
- CPMHN (C) preferred
- 2+ years of experience working with patients who have a broad range of addiction and psychiatric diagnoses preferred
- 1 year in Charge Nurse role preferred
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, and community mental health resources
- BCLS Level C for Healthcare Providers
- Proven ability to assume leadership
- Experience with group facilitation
- Sound clinical judgment based on current best practices, and patient centered care
- Applied understanding of the Stages of Change Model, Mental Status Exam, and Crisis management
- Knowledge of CBT/DBT is an asset
- Understanding of the addicted patient population, treatment methodologies, and medications
- Awareness and acknowledgement of the value of using measurement-based care when supporting patients/clients to help guide clinical decision making; experience an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong inter-personal skills and respectful communication style with patients, families and staff
