We are currently recruiting for a Senior Manager or Director, Client Development to join our Calgary Office. This role serves as a senior member of the Client Development & Marketing (CD&M) leadership team, contributing to the strategic direction and execution of firm-wide business development and marketing initiatives. A highly strategic and collaborative leader, the Senior Manager or Director works with the Calgary Office Managing Partner and Calgary lawyers, firm management and the CD&M team to develop and execute BD strategies that support the firm’s vision and commercial objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Manager or Director to develop and lead the comprehensive business development (BD) and marketing strategy for our Calgary office. You will be a key leader responsible for driving growth and enhancing our market position.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Planning & Leadership: Partnering with office leadership and lawyers to create and execute a strategic BD and marketing plan. You will analyze market trends, identify new business opportunities, and set prioritized goals to drive profitable growth.
  • Client & Business Development: Leading key client management programs, providing strategic direction on major proposals and pitches (in collaboration with the Pursuits team), and overseeing client engagement activities and events.
  • Marketing & Brand Building: Developing the office's marketing and communications strategy, working with central teams to enhance our profile. You will lead initiatives to build the brand of the office, its practices, and its lawyers through directories, awards, sponsorships, and media relations.
  • Team Leadership & Operations: Leading, coaching, and mentoring a high-performing team of two direct reports. You will also manage the office BD budget, support lawyer BD training, and foster a culture of internal collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, marketing, law and/or communications.
  • 10+ years’ related marketing or business development experience within a legal or professional services firm. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience is acceptable.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Highly organized, proactive, and capable with a strong orientation to client service and teamwork
  • Well-developed leadership, collaboration, and management skills
  • Ability to provide creative and collaborative solutions to support client and BD initiatives
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and coordinate people effectively
  • Proven strategic thinking and analytical skills, with strong interpersonal skills and active listening capabilities
  • Experience with project management, prioritizing objectives, managing competing service requests, meeting deadlines and being accountable for exemplary work product
  • Knowledge of local market and business community, and ability to keep up to date with market and competitive trends, challenges and goals related to both internal and external client groups
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of CRM technologies and integration with marketing communications platforms
  • Ability to lead and mentor more junior team members in business-development and marketing activities
  • Ability to remain current with relevant technology and marketing media
  • General knowledge of how a law firm and individual practice groups operate
  • Proficient in MS Office, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook, and with AI tools and technologies. Proficiency with Power BI is an asset.

We are currently working in a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a requirement to work primarily in the office and flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
