About The Role

Are you a medicinal chemist passionate about the design and strategy behind selecting the right compounds to make? Are you used to using computational tools to analyse data and drive value across DMTA cycle? Insmed Cambridge are looking for an Associate Principal Scientist, this role plays a pivotal part in supporting the speed of decision making vital to design and synthesize novel molecules that translate our groundbreaking biological discoveries into pioneering medicines.

What You'll Do

  • Assume a vital role as a medicinal chemist lead on a discovery project.
  • Play a lead role supporting projects from concept to clinic, ensuring alignment with overall program goals and timelines.
  • Utilise computational tools such as spotfire to conduct data analysis and synthetic techniques to drive drug design, positively impacting progression of medicinal chemistry programs.
  • Apply efficient and creative methodologies to complete hit-to-candidate medicinal chemistry campaigns to the highest standards and in short timescales.
  • Manage or mentor a team of skilled chemists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Contribute to the execution of a broad range of laboratory skills covering a range of different chemistries to successfully access synthetic targets on milligram to gram scale.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve synthetic and analytical challenges.
  • Collaborate across-functions (biology, pharmacology, ADME) to drive efficiencies in the Design-Make-Test-Analyse cycles
  • Maintain competitive awareness around advances in synthetic and/or medicinal chemistry and identify opportunities to publish chemistry-related progress, lead compilation and filing of patent applications.

Who You Are

  • A MSc or PhD qualification and a proven track record in industry (7+ yrs) with experience in a leadership or mentoring role.
  • Proven expertise in ideas/hypothesis generation based on structure-based drug design and data analysis (SAR) to address typical medicinal chemistry challenges including ADME and physicochemical properties.
  • A passion for new technologies and competence in the use of Spotfire and other data visualisation and machine learning models.
  • Theoretical and practical synthesis knowledge with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills coupled with a strong focus on leading change and collaboration.
  • This role will require you to work flexibly from our brand-new offices and labs situated in Babraham Research Campus, South Cambridge.
