Summary
The Energy, Measurement and Verification Specialist supports the delivery of our client’s Energy, Sustainability, and Climate Resilience (ESCR) program through the management of energy performance, measurement and verification (M&V), and sustainability reporting.
This role is responsible for quantifying and communicating energy and GHG performance outcomes across a large and diverse portfolio of buildings. The Specialist will lead M&V activities under the Guaranteed Savings Program, support the development and execution of energy projects, and ensure ongoing optimization of building performance.
Working closely with Energy Managers, Facility Managers, Smart Building teams, and the client, this position plays a critical role in ensuring data integrity, demonstrating results, and driving continuous performance improvement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Measurement & Verification (M&V)
- Lead M&V activities for energy conservation measures and guaranteed savings initiatives.
- Develop and maintain energy baselines, calculate verified savings, and ensure alignment with IPMVP protocols.
- Coordinate data collection and validation across multiple systems (BAS, metering, utility data, and analytics platforms).
- Support annual, quarterly and monthly Guaranteed Savings reporting, ensuring data accuracy and transparency.
- Identify performance anomalies and work with Energy Managers, Facility Managers, and Smart Building Team to investigate root causes.
- Support the identification and analysis of energy-saving opportunities through building data, audit reports, and smart building analytics.
- Review and validate consultant or vendor feasibility studies and savings models.
- Support the implementation, commissioning, and tracking of energy projects.
- Work with Energy Managers to document energy conservation measures and quantify expected savings.
- Monitor building energy performance and identify sites for optimization.
- Analyze trends and anomalies in building systems, providing recommendations for operational improvements.
- Collaborate with the Smart Buildings and Facility Management teams to maintain persistence of savings.
- Lead portfolio-level energy and sustainability reporting, including Guaranteed Savings, Quarterly Energy Performance Reports, and KPI tracking under the MSA.
- Develop reports, and visualizations to communicate performance to internal and client stakeholders.
- Support annual GHG reporting submissions, energy audits, and executive briefings.
- Act as a key liaison between BGIS, IO, and service providers on all energy and sustainability matters.
- Support presentations, technical summaries, and executive reports that communicate energy and carbon reduction progress.
- Collaborate with client and internal teams to ensure transparency and consistency in reporting.
- Incentive Programs: Search, identify, apply, implement, track, and report on utility incentive programs related to energy and water consumption that have the potential to offset costs.
- Support utility budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities through demand management, rate optimization, and load shifting.
- Provide input into annual energy forecasts and GHG reduction targets.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in energy and sustainability analytics, reporting, or performance management.
- Strong understanding of energy measurement and verification (M&V) methodologies (IPMVP).
- Advanced analytical skills, including weather normalization, regression modeling, and savings calculations.
- Proficiency in Excel, RETScreen, and large-data manipulation for utility and building performance datasets.
- Knowledge of BAS, sub-metering, and smart building systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical results into clear insights for non-technical audiences.
- Experience with GHG inventory management, sustainability reporting frameworks, and utility rate structures.
- Certification such as CMVP, CEM, or LEED is considered an asset.
