Hardware Product Manager - Pluggables at Nokia

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead our pluggable optics strategy for IP routers and data center switches. This role requires deep technical expertise in optical and electrical interfaces, combined with strong business acumen to drive product strategy across our networking portfolio. You will serve as the critical bridge between suppliers, internal engineering teams, and go-to-market organizations to ensure our platforms support the right mix of pluggable modules to meet customer requirements.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

  • Define and execute the pluggable optics strategy across our router and switch product lines
  • Develop multi-year roadmaps aligned with industry trends, customer requirements, and technology evolution
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and standards to inform future product direction
  • Work with engineering and supply chain to evaluate supplier product portfolios and assess applicability to our platform requirements
  • Determine pluggable optics priorities according to feedback from customers and pre-sales, as well as industry trends and dynamics
  • Drive the pluggable optics qualification process with software and hardware engineering
  • Track industry supply chain dynamics and identify potential risks or opportunities

Key Skills And Experience

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in networking, telecommunications, or data center technologies
  • 5+ years of product management or technical marketing experience
  • Deep understanding of optical communication principles including modulation formats, wavelengths, link budgets, and dispersion
  • Expertise in relevant standards: IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, OIF CEI/C2M, MSA specifications (QSFP-DD, OSFP, CFP8, etc.)
  • Experience working with optical transceiver manufacturers or component suppliers

Nice to have:

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present to both technical and executive audiences
  • Familiarity with management interfaces (CMIS, SFF-8636) and diagnostic monitoring
  • Understanding of IP routing and data center switching architectures and use cases
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating technical requirements
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies: coherent optics, co-packaged optics, silicon photonics
