Plains is looking for an organized and reliable Utility Person for our Empress Straddle Plant located approximately 120 km north of Medicine Hat, Alberta. The ideal candidate will excel in a team environment and contribute to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures.

This is a 12-month temporary position. As a member of the Plains Empress North Operations Team, the successful candidate will report to the Maintenance Team Lead and participate in our Union.

Responsibilities:

  • Operation of mobile equipment (skid steer, forklift, wheeled loader) for the purpose of moving material throughout site.
  • Performs assignments such as loading rail cars, monitoring product quality and measurement accuracy, and metering, sampling, and testing procedures.
  • Assist trades executing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks
  • Executing site safety checks (fire extinguishers, eyewash, SCBA etc)
  • Operation of vac truck transferring fluid throughout site
  • Assisting Operations with chemical offloads
  • Performing product quality testing in onsite lab
  • Manual labor – shoveling, painting, moving equipment/materials

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing 4th class power engineering or journeyman trade certification.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently or as a team member with minimal supervision;
  • General computer knowledge;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with site related industrial experience, considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with injection well and vacuum truck operations considered an asset;
  • Experience in the oil/gas field considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated heavy equipment operating experience considered an asset;
  • Permanent residency within 120 km of the Empress Facility is a condition of employment.
  • Compliance with the Company’s requirement to be clean shaven to ensure proper fit of emergency PPE.
  • The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 5 drivers license with a clean drivers abstract. Preference will be given to those who hold a Class 3A license.
  • Ability to work in moderate to heavy physically demanding working conditions, including working outdoors in an open environment with extremes of heat and cold.
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment screening.
