Job Description

The Configuration & Data Management Lead, Engineering is responsible for the leadership and development of a team within Engineering Services to support the ongoing projects under the matrix organization structure for new vessels constructed by Seaspan Shipyards.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do

  • Supports VSY Configuration Management and Change Management in line with International Standards (EIA-649C) and VSY Configuration & Data Management Plan.
  • Controls project technical and non-technical documentation through the creation of configured project Baselines.
  • Enforces critical VSY Configuration management controls across PLM and integrated tools.
  • Develops staff, manages team and allocates the required resources to the ongoing projects under the matrix organization structure.
  • Support the development and maintenance of statements of Work (SOW), Master Product Lists (MPL) and hours estimates for task proposals.
  • Develop and maintain a discipline resourcing plan and lead on any required recruitment activities.
  • Support the Manager/Senior Manager with Control Account Manager (CAM) duties for disciplines within their department and any subcontracted scopes, responsible for cost and schedule adherence across all programs.
  • Develop and implement governance processes that comply with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) requirements and Data Governance legislation.
  • Advance training and development plans and paths for Configuration management specialists, ensuring high performance from the team and resolution of performance issues.
  • Develop, implement, and improve engineering user tools that best support efficient design and build practices.
  • Drive improved quality and conduct regular Configuration Managements Audits.
  • Provide technical and execution support to the Project Engineering Manager or Project Chief Engineer as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of design/data management and leadership experience in a shipyard or related industry.
  • 10+ years of design/data management experience in the shipbuilding industry or equivalent.
  • Experience of supplier technical management.
  • Experience of Earned Value Management.
  • Experience of Product Lifecycle Management tools (ARAS preferred but not essential).
  • Experience with implementation of Configuration standard methodologies (EIA-649 Configuration Management and ISO 10007).
  • Experience in production, project engineering and/or project management is desirable.
  • Management skills and ability to lead a large and diverse technical team.
  • In-depth understanding of the shipbuilding design process.
  • Technical, analytical and change management skills.
  • Negotiating and communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Initiative, creativity, and integrity.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and solve problems.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $105,300 - $128,700. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

Must hold or be eligible to attain Reliability Security Clearance or a higher level of Security Clearance as required.
