Temporary Computer Technician at Northern Gateway School Division
Northern Gateway Public Schools (NGPS) invites applications for a Temporary Full-Time Computer Technician position serving the Onoway Schools area, with the term ending June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension to a permanent full-time position.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Computer Technician will provide on-site technology support to staff and students in the Onoway area schools. This position is primarily based at Onoway Jr/Sr High School and works closely with school administration and teaching staff to support day-to-day instructional and operational technology needs.
This is an onsite position; remote work is not permitted. Daily physical presence at the assigned school site is required to provide timely, in-person technical support.
As a member of the NGPS Technology Team, this role also collaborates with division-wide IT staff and contributes to the support and maintenance of NGPS systems and services. The technician will manage and respond to helpdesk requests for the Onoway area schools, with occasional coordination and escalation to the Division Office in Whitecourt, AB, as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support for the Wide Area Network (WAN) under Division Office direction.
- Support and maintain Local Area Networks (LANs) in consultation with school administration and the Division Office.
- Diagnose and resolve software and hardware problems.
- Install new and updated software and hardware.
- Provide in-servicing and training for staff on the use and application of software and hardware.
- Create and maintain databases of software and hardware inventory and licenses.
- Recommend upgrades to software and hardware as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic issues with wireless systems, LED TVs, and computer technology, including videoconferencing.

- Familiarity with Google Apps (G Suite/Google Workspace).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
- A two-year technical diploma in Information Technology or a related discipline, and/or relevant related work experience.
Salary Range: $48,621.12 – $62,587.76 (depending on qualifications and experience). Refer to the Northern Gateway Terms of Employment on the Division website.
Start Date & Term
Start Date: Duties will commence as soon as possible (ASAP).
Term: This is a temporary position until June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension to a permanent full-time position.
