About the Role:

Reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the promotion, development and implementation of aquatic opportunities, and supporting a healthy environment for participants as well as the safe delivery of aquatics programs. The Aquatics Coordinator is also responsible for providing guidance to staff in delivering programs, monitoring programs and preparing information and materials required for activeSTC, the website and communication to program participants.

What you'll be Doing:
(These set out the principal functions of the position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements).

  • Administer all aspects of the daily operations of pools and aquatic programs by monitoring pool operations and visiting aquatic sites on a regular basis.
  • Organize and teach advanced level programs in the City aquatic facilities, respond to inquiries and maintain program supplies.
  • Administer the planning, design and development of lessons within the affiliated structure and program schedules.
  • Assist with the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of part-time, and seasonal aquatic staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of staff schedules and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide input on staff manuals, safe operating procedures, payroll, in service training, and directing staff.
  • Prepare marketing materials and the content of the aquatics section of the website and in facility promotion.
  • Monitor trends, and completed needs assessments to develop target audiences, and provide input for new programs within the Department.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of the budget and purchase items from the budget for aquatic facilities with supervisor approval.
  • Participate in public outreach programs for water safety education.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as directed.

What's Required:

  • Completion of College Diploma in Recreation or related field.
  • One (1) year related experience working in an aquatic setting.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR C; High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development; National Lifeguard; Swim Instructor; Lifesaving Instructor; and Examiners.
  • Instructing, coaching, and examining certifications of Lifesaving Instructor; Standard First Aid Instructor; National Lifeguard Instructor; National Lifeguard Examiner; and Certified Pool Operator are considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all relevant Acts, legislation and applicable regulations (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a demonstrated ability to provide direction and functional guidance and to function effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Sound customer service skills with a strong sense of public service and cooperation, and well-developed abilities to deal with the public and citizens’ groups.
  • Well-developed coaching, supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs and the ability to adapt quickly to new software.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the job in order to maintain required technical certification.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license, Class “G”, with a clean driving record.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.

Other Position Requirements include: Ability to travel between City work locations
