Introduction to the Team

Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.

The Government and Corporate Affairs team plays a key role in the Company’s mission by navigating the complex and dynamic travel, technology, and eCommerce policy landscape. By building and leveraging strong relationships with elected and appointed policymakers and regulators, industry associations, and partner groups, the Government and Corporate Affairs team supports the Company’s mission through enactment of thoughtful public policy solutions that support the growth of the travel and tourism sector around the world.

The Senior Manager reports to the Senior Director of Government and Corporate Affairs for North America within the Expedia Legal and Corporate Affairs division.

In This Role, You Will

  • Understand how the organization does business (i.e., business model and operations, financial performance, and key success factors).
  • Identify and lead response to regulatory challenges and opportunities drawing on your understanding of the local political environment, your ability to read and develop legislative language and policy memoranda with support from Legal, Tax and other internal teams.
  • Lobby and advocate for Expedia Group’s public policy positions with legislative and executive bodies of municipal, provincial, and Federal government
  • Lead government relations assets and resources including local contract lobby teams and, as available, political contributions, sponsorships, and partnerships.
  • Serve as a policy and advocacy issue area expert for teams across Expedia Group.
  • Propose, draft, and deliver communications material including testimony, blog posts, and other creative content alongside our Policy Communications and Grassroots Engagement team prior to external deadlines.
  • Travel, sometimes with limited notice, to engage directly with local or state government officials on critical legislation.

Experience And Qualifications

  • You have experience in public policy, media and communications, and advocacy strategy development and implementation.
  • Preferred: You have 3+ years of direct lobbying experience
  • You understand Canadian municipal, provincial, and/or Federal government processes and structures.
  • You read, understand, and communicate public policy language fluently.
  • You are a strong written and verbal communicator who can work well with internal and external stakeholders to create and advance lobbying and advocacy strategies.
  • You can prioritize multiple sophisticated projects in varying stages of development, often under a time constraint.
  • You have built creative, effective strategies to address difficult communications and legislative challenges.
  • You are comfortable making high-level recommendations and strategic decisions and communicating those recommendations to company leadership.

The total cash range for this position in Virtual is $131,000.00 to $183,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $209,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in Montreal is $120,500.00 to $169,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $193,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role. The total cash range for this position in Toronto is $131,000.00 to $183,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $209,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
