Student Accessibility Services Coordinator – 6-Mon Term – Student Accessibility Services at Brandon University
Brandon University seeks a full-time six month appointment as a Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Coordinator. Reporting to the Dean of Students and collaborating closely with the Student Accessibility Specialist, the SAS Coordinator will play a crucial role in providing services for students with disabilities.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review documentation, conduct interviews, and determine eligibility for accommodations and supports for students with disabilities
- Identify and implement effective and reasonable accommodations and supports for students with disabilities, according to established policies, guidelines, and best practices
- Communicate with faculty regarding the implementation of accommodations and supports for students with disabilities
- Provide assistance with grant applications from government and other external agencies for services and support for students with disabilities
- Review relevant legislation and its application to post-secondary sector: assist with policy development and revision as needed
- Research and development of new initiatives and programming, including partnerships with other areas on campus and external agencies
- Develop and implement specialized individual and small group programming for students with disabilities in the areas of academic skills and training with assistive technology
- Collaborate with the University community to facilitate access and promote increased understanding of accessibility
- Collect, maintain, and report on usage data and records of activities
- Maintain confidential files as per legislation
- Engage in research and scholarship activities as per Article 14
- Represent Student Accessibility Services on professional and scholarly association committees, task forces, work groups, and other entities at the local, regional, and national level as appropriate to position and area of expertise
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Dean of Students through consultation.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. Disability Studies, Psychology, Education, Counselling, Social Work). An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to these qualifications and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
- Experience in the delivery of learning assistance and knowledge of assistive technology to increase success of students in a post-secondary environment.
- Additional related training and experience in Accessibility/Disability service provision in a post-secondary environment is preferred.
- Additional training in mental health and/or psycho-social wellness (e.g ASIST, Mental Health First Aid) would be an asset.
- Experience in supervision and management of student assistants or staff is preferred.
