The Western Technology Transfer Office is the Business Development arm of Western University, Robarts Research Institute and the London Hospitals’ Research Institutes. The business unit serves as the exclusive advocate and agent for promising commercial and technology transfer opportunities derived from London’s extensive research portfolio.

Responsibilities


The Project Manager, BioNext, will lead the scoping, management, and execution of life science commercialization initiatives across the organization. Acting as both a strategic advisor and collaborator, the role ensures that innovative ideas move efficiently from concept to implementation - maximizing research impact, resource use, and operational alignment. The Project Manager will enhance and integrate structure and visibility to complex projects, ensuring that milestones, accountabilities, and budgets are clearly defined and achieved. Working collaboratively with scientific, regulatory, and business teams, this role supports early-stage idea scoping, feasibility assessment, and project delivery. By embedding sound project management practices and fostering communication across disciplines, the Project Manager will help BioNext accelerate innovation, strengthen partnerships, and drive commercialization success.

Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Engineering, Life Sciences or related field (Master’s or MBA is a plus)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent training/experience in project management
  • Master’s Degree (Communications, Human Resources, Marketing, Business Administration) is preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years of project management experience, preferably in a startup or fast-paced tech environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects with strict timelines and deliverables
  • Experience in financial oversight, including budget tracking and sponsor reporting requirements
  • Experience interpreting and applying institutional or sponsor policies and procedures
  • Prior experience in a startup or early-stage company is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a post-secondary setting would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools (Jira, Asana, Monday, etc.)
  • Comprehensive understanding of biotechnology R&D, product development, and regulatory processes
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Ability to evaluate issues, recognize potential problems and take action to proactively resolve issues
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change - proactive problem-solver with a bias for act
  • In-depth knowledge of techniques for planning, managing and coordinating projects, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders and tightly prescribed timelines
  • Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with clients, peers and external stakeholders in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
