Position Summary :

The Injury Prevention Consultant is accountable for supporting the enhancement and maintenance of the Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Prevention Program in alignment with the hospital’s strategic plan and priorities.

The Injury Prevention Consultant plays a key role in identifying and mitigating potential risks and high-risk situations, and the promotion of injury and MSD prevention across the organization.

The Injury Prevention Consultant provides leadership and advice, and collaborates with staff and management at all levels to address injury and MSD risk, hazards and related concerns.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports MSD prevention program and related continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures organizational compliance with applicable occupational health and safety regulations and legislation, and other legal requirements.
  • Train and support employees to ensure safe and consistent patient and manual material handling practices.
  • Completes Job Demands Descriptions.
  • Conducts ergonomics assessments in collaboration with staff and leaders, and prepares detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Assists with the development of return to work and accommodation plans, working in collaboration with Disability Management, Employee Health, frontline staff, leaders, and labour partners.
  • Assists with the investigation (root cause analysis) and resolution of MSD related employee incidents and hazards. Observes work practices to support process improvement.
  • Assists clinical staff and leaders to address complex patient handling concerns.
  • Coordinates the collection and analysis of safety and MSD information, prepares reports, produces statistical information on relevant data, and provides recommendations for risk reduction and improvement.
  • Acts as a resource for injury prevention on a variety of internal and external committees.
  • Consults on capital requests, construction projects, RFPs and other equipment standards within WRHN
  • Works in compliance of CSA standards and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or related healthcare field
  • Associate Ergonomist (AE) or Certified Canadian Professional Ergonomist (CCPE) designation or previous experience in ergonomic assessment is an asset
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience in a health care setting and/or unionized environment
  • Evidence of effective customer service and successful delivery of applicable education/training.
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and with minimal supervision
