What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Recreation Maintenance Supervisor, the Recreation Maintenance Assistant Supervisor supports the supervisor in maintaining and operating recreation facilities, grounds, and equipment. The assistant supervisor also supervises and directs Seasonal Recreation Maintenance staff in their daily tasks and responsibilities.

Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Support and assist with the maintenance and operations of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.
  • Make operation and maintenance project recommendations to the supervisor.
  • Help develop maintenance plans and checklists.
  • Assist with the coordination of small to medium size projects.
  • Oversee and coordinate the annual and ongoing equipment servicing program, under the direction of the Supervisor. Work closely with the staff and contractors who perform the mechanical duties.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to meet the goals and objectives of the seasonal maintenance programs and plans.
  • Assist with training and orientation of new staff on various equipment and operations.
  • Responsible for the productivity and well-being of the seasonal recreation maintenance team.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discipline seasonal recreation maintenance staff.
  • Set schedules, manage time off requests, and submit timesheets for seasonal recreation maintenance staff, under guidelines set by the supervisor.
  • Together with supervisor, ensure a safe workplace for all seasonal staff through education, training and standard operating procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications You’ll Need

  • Have or be willing to obtain the Ice Facility Operator Certificate and Provincial Refrigeration Level II certificate or 4th Class Power Engineering certificate.
  • Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license is required. Class 3 would be an asset.
  • Experience operating and maintaining turf, grounds, pools, and ice making equipment is preferred.
  • Experience maintaining public facilities, equipment, and vehicles is preferred.
  • Some leadership experience is an asset.
  • May be required to hold or obtain relevant training and certification such as WHIMIS, First Aid, CPR, forklift, etc.
  • A criminal record check, child abuse registry check, and adult abuse registry check will be required.

  • Possess the character and wisdom to lead a team.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills are required
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently.
  • Must be safety conscious in all matters related to maintenance, staff, and the public.
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills, including Microsoft 365.
  • Be physically capable of performing work tasks

Job Details

  • Full-time (40hrs/week), permanent position.
  • Generally works daytime hours Monday to Friday, but may be required to work evening and weekend shifts to cover for Recreation Facilities Operators as needed.

  • Pay Range is $27.79 to $33.00 per hour, depending on experience.
  • May be required to work on-call and outside of regular work hours.
  • Indoor and outdoor work.
  • Work requires the use of PPE such as hearing protection, eye protection, steel toe boots, etc.
  • Hazards associated with working near mechanical equipment, using hand tools and power tools, operating vehicles, working near traffic, working in all weather conditions, working in a public space, working at heights, working on icy surfaces, and working with hazardous materials.
