- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).
Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Technical & Design Services and working under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief, the incumbent will work in a crew of two or three. This position conducts survey measurements, calculations, data compilation and establishes field reference points to assist Project Managers, consultants and contractors in the design and construction of Regional infrastructure projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform survey duties related to the pre and post construction of Municipal Infrastructure
- Operate G.P.S, Total Station, Data Collector, Levels and other related tools and equipment
- Check reductions of field leveling notes, utility measurement sheets & detail notes
- Assist with traffic control operations
- Ensure Survey Vehicle is organized, clean and stocked daily
- Pound/set survey stakes in the ground
- Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures
- Assist in other areas of the Engineering & Construction team
Skills & Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering program
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel
- Organization and communication skills
- Customer service experience
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Civil Technology 8 month coop program.
- Prior experience in inspection, survey or utilizing Carlson or Civil 3D software.
Working Conditions
- Travel will be required. The incumbent must supply own transportation and possess a valid G2 or G driver’s license.
- The incumbent will be required to safely work in live traffic, on active construction sites, at rail crossings and at Regional plants. Additional hazards may include working in various environmental conditions such as sun, heat, cold and noise.
- Must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including walking long distances, carrying equipment, moving maintenance manhole covers up to100lbs, pounding stakes and navigating varying terrain.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required.
- The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract by their first day of employment.
