Position Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Officer to work in the Generation Design Department. Under the general direction of the Team Lead or
delegate, perform as a specialist in and lead design projects focused on control and metering systems for generating stations. This
includes generators, governing systems, excitation systems, Unit Control & Monitoring Systems (UCMS), and ancillary equipment.
Provide specialized guidance and mentorship within the department and across the Corporation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design projects in accordance with applicable standards and codes on behalf of the Department and conduct complex
processes, procedures and standards.
- Provide specialized technical skills in all development and application aspects of control and metering systems for generating
ancillary equipment.
- Direct preparation of & review designs, drawings, specifications, reports, manuals, training, standards, and programs for
- Act as a specialist in the knowledge of terminology, practices, standards, and software related to control and metering
- Provide specialized advice to colleagues and project teams within the Corporation and help develop junior staff.
- Advise external consultants, suppliers & contractors of Manitoba Hydro's design requirements & review their deliverables to
- Provide construction support and lead commissioning activities.
- Lead procurement from tendering strategy to contract award to product acceptance.
- Develop new and/or update existing Departmental standards, processes and procedures and ensure compliance by others.
- Liaise and act as the technical expert for field staff generating station sites and to ensure effective use of UCMS.
- Advocate for learning, proper processes and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- A two year diploma in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Technology from an institute of recognized standing and five years of
- Membership in the Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba Inc.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba
- Demonstrated proficiency of software design principles. Experience in programming Visual Basic, Python and IEC61131

- Demonstrated initiative and ability to carry out projects to successful completion on schedule, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical project
- Willingness to improve skills and learn new technologies through self-study, courses, webinars and seminars.
- Willingness to travel to generating stations as required.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.35-$59.82 Hourly,
$83,070.78-$114,625.68 Annually.
