Duties And Responsibilities
- Support the pharmacist in maintaining compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, accrediting body standards, and company policies.
- Enter prescriptions into Kroll, process billing, and schedule patients for repeat medications.
- Schedule patients for repeat medications
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records, including filing and documenting dispensing information.
- Prepare compounding sheets and assist with medication preparation and labeling as permitted by law.
- Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from prescribers as allowed by provincial regulations; manage prescription transfers.
- Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions as permitted by provincial pharmacy college regulations from prescribers ensuring prescription completeness; and provide prescription transfers
- Package and dispense prescription medications after a pharmacist has confirmed clinical appropriateness of therapy including:
- confirming accuracy, completeness and final check of compounded sterile products & prepared prescriptions prepared for release (i.e. correct patient, drug dosage form/route, dose, doctor, etc.)
- Perform a quality assessment on the prescription or compounded sterile product, including but not limited to the absence of particulate matter and container integrity
- Ensures prescriptions and/or compounding products are matched to the right delivery just prior to shipping
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, review expiry dates, rotate stock, and conduct cycle counts.
- Follows established procedures for drug and supply procurement and maintains appropriate and accurate inventory levels and preferred product selection of drugs, solutions, and supplies
- Performs physical inventories and cycle counts according to (P&Ps)
- Report adverse events per Policies and Procedures
- Liaise collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to patient support program personnel, clinic and nursing staff, scheduling team, and pharmacy team at main pharmacy.
- Contributes to maintaining a clean and tidy work environment
- Understands the pharmacy operation which may require performing other duties as assigned
- Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, education programs and department/branch meetings.
- Coordinate staff schedules and shift coverage.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members.
- Provide on-call support for fridge temperature excursions and security alarm notifications.
- Lead performance management initiatives for fellow RDL staff.
- Travel to the main pharmacy location to participate in onboarding and training sessions as needed.
- Prepare for and attend monthly on-site assessment procedures in compliance with Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate or Diploma from an accredited institution (required).
- Licensed and in good standing with the Provincial College of Pharmacy.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in a pharmacy setting, with a preference for busy community or specialty pharmacy environments.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and guide pharmacy staff, including onboarding and training.
- Advanced knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication management, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficient in pharmacy management systems (e.g., Kroll, Pyxis MedStation, Cerner Millennium, Rx30, Epic Willow).
- Strong inventory management skills, including monitoring stock levels, ordering, and managing returns.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly in one-on-one and group settings, and collaborate effectively with pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, build consensus, and foster a positive work environment.
- Excellent decision making and problem solving abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
- Ability to organize workload efficiently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled in conflict resolution, change management, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical standards.
- Proficiency with current word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration software (e.g., SharePoint, email, internet applications).
- Experience in training, mentoring, and developing staff, including providing constructive feedback and supporting professional growth.
- Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to address patient and provider inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
- Strong organizational skills, adaptability and leadership skills.
- Strong computer skills (word processing, database and spreadsheet programs etc)
- Strong attention to detail within a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Kroll computer software
- Strong communication skills via phone/email and in person
- Ability to multitask and work well in a team environment
